I just bought a 90 TSi AWD that has alot of mods done to it, it runs good shift's like crap, Im runnin at 15 psi now 11.1 A/F, problem is when I get in the boost and shift at high RPM's its super slow almost grinds going into second, at normal driving contitions it works perfect, the trans is supposed to be a Dogbox racing trans with double syncro 2nd and a ACT 2600# clutch with a street disk and a welded center diff, the trans looks like it was JUST rebuilt, the trans dosent wine so I know it isnt a Dog box trans with straight cut gears it is quiet like a helical cut gear so im not sure where dogbox comes from, the trans is full the master cylinder I flushed today with no change in the performance...what do I have here a stock trans that just shifts like crap, a new dogbox trans that is broke (or is just crap)....or something else....it also has a short throw shifter and new bushings, if this trans is crap where can I get a good one that will hold the power, I paid alot of money for this car and drove over 1,300 miles to get it so im kinda dissapointed in the performance so far

on another note what is a good EBC it has a MBC on it now what runs good on these cars, I have a Greddy Porfec B on my Grand National and I hate it so please dont recomend that one ;)

Dogbox racing is a shop in Jersey that messes with DSM's and will build trannys. It's most likely a rebuilt tranny.

Get rid of that short throw shifter, bleed the hydrolics good and makesure the slave and master are not leaking at all. It sounds like a hydrolic issue.

Also, just run an MBC.

Is the shep trans any good? are there any other trans out there for these cars? where would I be able to find a "NEW" stock or aftermarket shifter that is GOOD im not wanting any old used junk :( , I think I have a bad syncro in the trans kinda sad considering the thing freshly rebuilt only 1,500 miles ago according to the build sheet I got with the car so the "dogbox" has gotta go

What is a good A/F setting at idle mine is at 17:1 - out of range and I cant get it any lower with my MAFT, will this work or do I need to find a way to remedy this, A/F are good everywhere else but idle

What kind of ET's should I expect with a good tune and properly shifting trans? I think it should me faster than high 12's but that was at 17psi im shooting for 20-25psi tune when I get my EGT gauge in im also thing about goin to a Scan Master to that is what I use on my Grand Nat im kinda use to the way it work? anybody out there have one on there DSM? if so how do you like it ??? :D

Shep trannys are considered some of the best for our cars. That dogbox one should be good too. Really, a properly working clutch is the KEY for these cars, as they're known to have horrible issues. A good working clutch with a good working stock tranny is good. rebuilt or built, better of course. Good oil is key also in the tranny.

Just grab a shifter out of a junkyard car. Possible toss some new bushings in it. What kind of short throw is in the car? If it's a name brand, you may be ok, but if it's an eBay shifter, throw it out. I think stock 1g shifters are peferct as is, with a diferent knob.

Idle and cruise you generally want the AFR to cycle around 14.7.

Time's are all relevant of driving, tune, and car's setup and track prep. A stock turbo will go 14's or 11's depending on the setup. Screw the EGT gauge and the scanmaster, and get DSMlink/ECMlink. Money way better spent and will teach you more.

Research more, you have a lot to learn.

DogBox is just another DSM tranny shop. Similar to Jacks, Shep, and TRE they all do a good job I'm sure. Im not really sure where the straight cut gear setups got the name "DogBox" but they are pretty sweet. To the point where they should be called...Awesome Box.:sneaky:

B&M Shifter with poly bushings, is the DSMlink user friendly, I want a gauge and graph type datalog like the scanmaster wich is super easy to read and inturput making tuning that much faster!!! why no EGT gauge? kinda like cheap insurance to me, im not worried about spending the money on this car im not 19 working at MickeyD's, this is my first DSM or import for that matter but ive been racing for a long time now mostly nitrous chevy , my other toy is a fully built 1986 Buick T-Type (Grand National in sheep clothes) wich is curently runnin low 11's (I shipped off my Turbonetics to get Garrett internals installed should be well into the 10's when I get it back) so im not new to turbo cars, just new to DSM's ;D

You need to do a lot of searching and reading! Dogbox has their own short shifter that you might want to look into.

I saw that....what is wrong with the B&M???seems to feel good but what do I know :p

where can I find a good used 7bolt auto engine at?Ive jumped head first into DSM's I just got a 97 GST auto with a blown up engine today, I cant locate a engine localy though :( you know of anygood DSM junkyards

I never shifted a 1g with a B and M, but I just like the stock shifter, and knowing that it was designed to work perfectly with the tranny. A lot of times I read of people with short throw shifters having shifting issues, either missing gears or other headaches. Stock shifters are short enough with a 2g or small shift knob.

DSMlink is VERY user friendly. It's super easy to use, and will be the most powerful tool for making power out of the car. It will log all the values the ECU see's.

EGT does help to a degree, but IMO you don't need it unless you're doing big highway runs or something. A wideband o2 will tell you more about how the engine's feeling or how lean you are. Better to tune with, IMO. With DSMlink + a wideband, you'll be able to get a very good tune on the street.

I never assumed you 19, I'm just telling you my view. If I was to build another DSM, that would be the route I'd go. I've been tuning mine that way for a while now, no problems and it's still on the stock motor and running pretty good times for it's mods.

1g DSM's make fantastic street/strip cars, and I'm sure you'll be happy with it. You don't know how bad i want a turbo Buick:)

I LOVE my Buick its so quiet has power everything, A/C the works and runs high 10's now, I'm hoping to make my DSM as fast, I fixed the shifting problem (I just replaced the master cylinder and the slave) Ive got a AEM wideband on the car, I just got in my EGT Im gonna put it on when I change out my exaust manifold gasket (it leaks along with the turbo oil return line) Im gonna get the DSMlink I guess I like the 2 step box and the no lift to shift, is there anymore cool things you can do with the DSMlink V3?

Will my turbo support high 10's or do I need to go with something else? I see you got your DSM runnin real good with a short list of mods (good job) Im thinking I should be a tad faster than you with a good tune on the car I have a palm pilot on the car now but its crap for tuning so im limiting my boost to 18-20 psi now , im at 25psi on the street with my Buick no achly until 27psi,

Don't go putting all the blame on the transmission. I'd pull the clutch out and make sure the pressure plate isn't warped. My 2600 warped on me and I could shift any gears high in the rpms without completely lifting and waiting a bit. I pulled the clutch and the pressure plate was warped not allowing full disengagement from the disc. The was evident as the disc was almost complete worn out on the out edge and still looked brand new on the inner edge of the friction surface.

I fixed it (replaced the master and slave cylinders)thanks though, I also just got done turning up the boost to 22psi up from 15psi now this is a fun little car Im very happy with the performance now :D and I found a new engine for my 2G GST auto for $450 :D :D :D
