Hey guys, thought you all might like to check this thing out. It is officially the first one on the East Coast. The latest and Greatest from Turbonetics, the GT-K 550.

This thing is just plain old bad-assed. Can't wait to get it on the car and start playing around.

Anyways, here's some pics for now. And thanks to TurboKits.com for getting me hooked up with this thing.

Those Surge Ports looks nice and the coating is sweet. Considering they Copied the Garret GT Wheels that should work very nicely.

Oh really? Prove it. They haven't even released the compressor maps yet, and with it being a completely new wheel I highly doubt they copied the GT's spec to spec.

And and look who's copying who now. Garretts T04Z cover!! They stole the bullet nose cone and the the large anit surge ports just not twisted like the GT-K's.

Oh and nice turbo BTW, I get my 550 in a few days.

And back in mid January, I got to see and feel a GT-K 550 firsthand after a seminar at a local supplier.

Yeah the EvoIII died a while ago, cars been sitting so i decided its time for a change..

Heres the specs on it....

Comp Size: HP61, .70A/R, 4" Inlet / 2.5" Outlet
Turbine Size: T3, 4 Bolt Round Outlet, .63 A/R, F1 Stage 5 wheel

Spool is going to be late i guess, anything is late compared to the 16g, but this thing is worth the Lag IMO

the pricing of those turbos really turned me away while ago when they were getting all this info out to distributors.

what kind of a deal did you get? pricing was preliminary back then so i don't know what the actual pricing is now.

I guess that makes the entry angle to the second set of blades less acute, great idea considering the air speed in that area. Wish they had just used a garrett center cartridge so I could slap one of those on my 35r compressor.

Can anyone explain me whats the purpose of those holes in the compresor housing, sorry for the ignorance and im not trying to steal the tread, but i really apreciate if anyone can explain it to me in simple words.

its my understanding that they help reduce or eliminate compressor surge when using a bigger quick spooling turbo on a smaller displacement engine.

that turbo looks mean. and from what ive read on there website its better than the gt series. it is design for fast spooling and high hp. great turbo in my opinion BUT to much money. if i had that kind of money to spend on a turbo i would go with the gt-k 650.

Exactly, it does this by recycling some of the pre-compressed air that flows "out" of the ports. Definitely worth any small loss in efficiency to offsett surge that can make a big turbo undrivable in normal driving conditions.

Hopefully they will release the map for the hp72 soon. Maybe I'll snatch up a GTK850 if it looks good.

Those do look killer. The coated compressor cover and anodized billet seal plate look great, but then the turbine housing looks like crap with all the grinding marks.

So would the 550 just be an SC61 with a ceramic coated turbine housing and black cover that is possibly overpriced? I'm trying to understand what makes this turbo better over an SC61 or standard bearing gt35.

And I personally don't really care for antisurge ports like on most 35r and those turbonetics. I do however dig this cover.

It would be more like the Standard bearing Gt35 as the SC61 uses the older style exhaust wheel.
