Gsx needs major help

Hey Everyone ,


I have a 96 eclipse gsx. My oil pressure is really low and bad causing my car to shut down. I cant drive it, the engine was rebuilt like 15k miles ago (idk how thorough or good) and my friend and I cant seem to locate the problem.

Im was thinking about getting a JDM engine but I have read so many bad reviews. IDK what to do because we just rebuilt the turbo and all was running good until i was on the fwy going 80 and my car started losing power.

Can you guys please point me in the right direction I have been without a car for 2 months now . Thanks

It's hard to tell exactly whats up without knowing about the engine build, but if it was done by someone out of their garage who just threw new bearings in it or whatever probably did something wrong. heck, if they got rid of the balance shafts and didn't get the balance shaft bearings turned then you could lose oil pressure that way too, and that is a lot more common to people who aren't experts on these cars. as with the JDM engine thing, people give JDM engines bad reviews and such because they can't tune for crap. in japan, the octane ratings are different and feeding a jdm engine 93 is like pissing in a gas tank, they were made to run 100 or better.

Do you know if he replaced the oil pump? Or if not, did they at least check the clearances. Usually low oil pressure is a result of really worn bearings. Was the a decent break in period on the motor?
