GST on CL pops 2nd gear?

98 eclipse gst


This car peaked my attention but it has no A/c and needs an alignment along with second gear popping out. Is it a good deal? I plan to offer lower if its good, but how much would it cost to fix the second gear popping out or is it something I could do myself?
 
You can tell that it has been wrecked. New bumper, and body work on the right rear 1/4 panel. The transmission could be multiple things. Generally it means that it needs to be rebuilt. My 3rd poped out all the time. Sometimes you could get it in gear. Two month later my transmission blew up and I got stuck at a left turn lane getting onto a highway. The transmission locked up and it could not be pushed or moved at all. It blew my 3rd and 4th shift rail and fork, and secondary end shaft bearings.

That being said, I would not jump straight on it. I would check it out, but fully inspect it. If you see cheap parts, then I would be worried about what other things were done cheaply. (Body work, suspension, motor, etc) I got my clean stock 100k 97' GSX for 3500. It may take time, but dont rush into something that appears to be a good deal without a good inspection.

EDIT* My gear pop cost me 130 shipped for the parts, another 120-150 for gear oil, then 350 for labor by a friend. A shop normally will charge around $100 an hour, 100-150 to diagnose, then parts cost. You can not narrow down the price more then that, as the issue is unknown until the transmission is opened up. It would be cheaper to buy a used GST transmission for 100-200 bucks and swap it.
 
Here in vegas, there hasn't been a clean gsx for more than 6500 :/. For a big city, no one sells dsms. Best dsm i've seen so far is an auto gsx for 5000 and a clean gst spyder for 3800.
 
Iwas thinking of the awd swap, theres a parts car gsx for sale as well which is convenient and its cheap LOL. Plus, itd be sexy as hell having a awd spyder.
