Hey guys..not real sure if this is in the correct forum or not...if it isn't then I appologise. But I was wonderinf if a stock 92 GST is faster than a stock '03 SVT Focus. A friend of mine has one and we were talking about it and couldn't decide. So I was wondering if any of you guys know.

uummm yeah by a long shot....I raced a modded one when I was pretty close to stock and whopped him. they arent a slouch but compared to a turbo dsm it really isnt a contest. race him from a dig to give him a chance as he may have better traction...racing from a roll and youll stomp all over him...
Andrew

ps I forgot bench racing is against the rules..

I'll have to take him to the track and run him to see I guess. His Focus buddies say he is faster and my DSM buddies say I'm faster. LOL So I'll go race him the LEGAL way since I cant afford to get any more tickets! LOL

hahaha no..no cool NOS kit... but maybe he'll need one huh? :D

they have what 170HP and 140ish lbs ft of torque. A 1G GST has 195 HP and 200ish lbs ft of torque. They only way you would lose if your running on 3 cylinders or have a blown turbo :dsm:

Or if you just plain suck at driving.

driving is almost all of it.. if your a crappy driver no matter how fast the car is your gonna suck seriously... ive beat many people just because they didnt know how to drive there cars

I ran, er... uh, I mean I know a guy who ran across an SVT Contour on his way home from class tonight. Apparently the guy in the SVT was trying to catch up to a modded Civic that was next to me... I mean this other guy. There was a triple gauge pod peeping through the SVT's open window. Personally, I can't figure what information from his Contour he felt he needed at a glance. I figure he must've had a battery voltage gauge, passenger capacity gauge and maybe an oil life expectancy gauge. The Civic and the Contour drivers weren't even paying attention to the '90 Laser (great sleeper cars). Wouldn't you know it, the light ahead of them was about to turn red and they were on a three lane road :). Unfortunately, the Laser is 2WD so he figured he'd have to take 'em in third gear. But the light turned green and he beat 'em off the line and in every gear up to the top of third (5500 RPM) where the anonymous DSM driver let off.

Very true. I guess that must've been the case tonight. I expected to win, but not by so much. At the next light, the kid in the Civic refused to believe I was running a stock turbo. I offered to pull over for a show and tell but he didn't seem interested.

I've seen a couple Focus SVT's at the track and didn't notice any impressive numbers. Although I haven't raced one. I'd say you have nothing to worry about unless your buddies' Focus has some serious modifications that you're not aware of. Take it to the track (do as I say, not as I do), concentrate on your launch and give him the full Monty. Be careful not talk too much **** before the race. Otherwise something on your DSM will break just to smite you.

This discussion would be more at home in The Hangout. Maybe if you're lucky, Defiant will let you slide. :laser:

If you're interested, there are a couple of DSM videos at Its-over.net related to this topic.

Talon vs. SVT Contour
Talon vs. Turbo SVT Focus

Yea.. DSMs are sensitive to trash talk. I talked trash earlier today about a Camaro I just beat recently...and when I cranked the car to leave for class...its missing and idleing rougher than 5 grit sand paper! Thats my luck. So tonight I'll be under the hood...AGAIN...

THANKS! LOL today my tnetioner went out and it jumped time a tooth or 2. I dont THINK any valves are bent..but I'll find out tomorrow. Buyt ya put a curse on my man! LOL

Yea you would kill him, their not that fast at all. I beat one from a roll when i was NA with only a muffler and intake.

GST is defenitely faster unless you cant drive or his car is heavily modded. My friend has one and its not even a comparison its really slow ran a 19.8,than a 17,with it first time at the track while I ran a 15.6 first time around.

the hp numbers alone say who is the winner.

I have a friend who's shop got an SVT in for a blower. Their stock runs were ~16.3. After the blower install, they were low 13's. Aurora, don't be surprised if you lose, it depends on who can launch and who doesn't care about destroying the tranny.

I have one and they run 15.1 to 15.6 in the 1/4 STOCK. Only 2 years left and I get to ditch this car for a 2nd gen dsm.

My roomate ran a Vortech Supercharged Focus with nitrous and ran mid 12s on a 30 shot. That was after his aerocharger setup. They are hard cars to make perform, but no one ####ing expects em if you can actually get them to turn good times. And the same blower on an SVT is good for 300whp, but stock for stock (driving aside) gst will win.
