gst conversion with 1g rear end

ive got a 98 gst and im converting it over to awd, i have a buddy whose got all the parts im getting the subframe rear end drive shaft transfer case tranny fly wheel and axels all for 200 bucks, pretty much got everything for doing this at a steal price, the problem im having is the rear end and subframe is from a 1g, i already know that theres gunna be some fab work, but is using a 1g rear gunna be a huge problem? what are is the difference between the 1g and 2g awd rear ends? is there a lot? are they close? if i can use it id rather do that than spend more money on a different subframe and what not im just not sure what the differences are, and ive been searching for the last few hours cant really find anything about it, all the guilds dont specify what rear end is needed im amusing the 2g but idk any info would be good. thanks

The 1g rear subframe is WAY different. There is going to be more than a little fab work to get a 1g rear end setup in a 2g than what you could imagine. You have to consider that all the lower suspension mounting points mount to the sub frame also. Lets just say that this isn't going to happen.

Another thing to consider: The 1g front/rear motor mounts are on the engine while the 2g has them on the trans. IIRC, the 2g block has provisions for a rear mount, but not the front. So to use the 1g trans and 2g engine, you would have to fab up a front motor mount and somehow attach it to the block.

He would have to make a front and rear roll stops. The 2g block has holes to bolt a 1g mount bracket to it, but it wouldn't attach to the 2g mount on the subframe.

Also another thing to think about is the fuel tanks.. A 2g AWD tank sits in front of the rear subframe and the driveshaft and saddles the driveshaft.. A 1g AWD tank is behind the the subframe.. Another thing to add is that the filler necks on each tank are on different sides... Unless you are very good at fabrication you WILL need a 2g donor..

also i have a 6bolt swap and im using a 2g trans, and as for the fuel tank, im switching over to a fuel cell

on the plus side that 1g frame is really clean. I wish I could get it.
