okay... My car has been through hell and back as far as motor problems are concerned...

To make it short last year I bought the car (97 GST 5sd) in January... ran good, and it was really quiet in the interior, everything was coooool. Then two months later CRANKWALK!!! Super... now I get to drop a couple grand into this car I just bought. Well this shop put a bolt motor in and it lasted only a couple of weeks.. sounded like shit... ran like shit, and it finally broke too, so i needed ANOTHER motor.. but I had no $$. So, the car then sat for a long while (3-4months) until i could save up the money to put in another motor which was finally put in the later part of last year. When I picked up my car after another 6 bolt motor was put in, i noticed that it was louder than normal over 35-45 mph. It makes this growling "loud" road noise kinda sound. I turn my steering wheel left and right and the sound doesn't change much at all. I put it in neutral while coasting at say 45-50 and I still hear the noise coming from the front of the car. There is a vibration associated with it too. The best I can describe it is like a loud moaning growling sound "wooooaaaaawoooowoooooaaaa" over and over until I slow down under 30mph.

So basically... I have to deal with this loud ass sound, so loud I can barely hear myself think and it only came about after the second motor swap. Since then, I've tried to fix this problem... I've replaced the tie rods, 4 new tires and had a 4wheel alignment... didn't make it any better... Any thoughts???

Thanks guys!!

Is it the same when you are not moving (just revving the engine up and holding it steady)?

Nope.. it's only when I'm rolling over 35mph. The engine can be completely off (which i've done) at over 35mph and it still makes this humming/droning noise. It stays the same tone once you get to over 35mph, doesn't get louder or faster... it just becomes more apearant You don't really hear it until 35mph though, and then its obvious. I was thinking wheel bearings... any way to tell. Right now the engine is pulled cuz the timing belt broke, anything I should look for?

Thanks guys!

If it's doing it w/ the engine off, it's probably the transmission. Inspect the fluid for metal.
