This might be a newbie question and I did a search but couldnt find anythihng that would help me.

Anyway I just picked up my GSX and its got a Greddy BOV on it,
the problem is the line off of the top is not hooked up to anything the rubber hose
is not even there.
Could you guys help me out with pics and detailed instructions
on the line hook up PLEASE.

What size line should I run and what parts do I need to hook it in????

Is it a problem if I drive it this way??????
I have to make a 300 mile trip tommorrow morning (SUN the 29th)
PLease help me I dont want to mess up my new toy on the first day I have it.

Thanx Guys!!!!!!

Lol, I'm in the same boat as you are, I just picked up my '99 GSX today and it's got a Greddy BOV, and nothing's hooked to the nipple at the top back. I think it's supposed to run to the manifold but I havent had the chance to research it yet.

Hopefully someone will be able to come along and answer the question for us.

This is the nipple that's unhooked on mine, is this the same as yours?

Does anyone know if this should be hooked up to anything?

this topic has been discussed 100+ times.. What's with you people and searching? NO IT DOESNT NEED TO BE HOOKED UP. But some people hook it to a pressure source to make it release faster.

The lower nipple is ok to be left open from what I have read.
I did find a pic in the gallery on where to hook the upper one up to.
So it is functiong now....

When I did get it hooked up right though
the car started bilowing white smke of some type.
What could this be????

I did find I have a major exhaust leak at the manifold.
Could this cause the white smoke.

Please help I cant drive it like this and I need to get home.

THANKS

While the topic of Greddy BOV's have been discussed 100's of times I have yet to find a discussion of what the above mentioned nipple is for. I'm still looking though...

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the links. I know how to search. I stated in my first response to the OP that I had not had a chance to research it yet. I started searching after that and was in the process of wading through all the Greddy BOV threads out there.

By the way, from reading your links it would appear that there is still conflicting opinions on what to do with the lower nipple so it's really not a dead subject.

It's a dead subject. Some people use it, some people dont. Try it without, if all is good then there is no need to hook it up. The greddy website states "the lower nipple should be left unhooked and uncapped" This is coming from the people that make the BOV. Another interesting thing i noticed is that on the new RS BOV it doesnt have that nipple. It has an area to vent in the same spot but no nipple. Intersting.

ok back to the question that was originally asked here....the top nipple is the only one that should have a line going to it, its supposed to go to the intake manifold. As per why the car smokes, it would first help to know where the smoke is coming from.

I am not sure of what all it has.
Its got an injen intake tubes, greddy intercooler tubes, greddy bov and an aftermarket intercooler. Sorry if some of the part names are wrong, like I said I am new to the turbo.

I returned it to the lot I got it from, and they had a mech heck it out.
First thing they found was a BAD exhaust manifold gasket.
I havent had a chance to find out what else they might have found.

As for the smoke it was coming out of the muffler.
I thought it was oil but it was disapearing faster then I thought oil would.

Maybe water???Would a bad manifold gasket leak coolant into the exhaust?

After driving it some more the smoke almost completely went away.
Mainly saw it again when shifting.

I will see how it is tommorrow I am picking it up again.Hope it goes better this time.

the nipple on the back of the BOV is usually hooked between the line from the wastegate to the nipple on the turbo which acts like an equalizer of pressure and releases the BOV faster and is really not needed. As for the line from the BOV to the manifold, look for an empty nipple on the side of the manifold there should either be a cap maybe it is left open, then just hook the line from there to the BOV.

white smoke is common when just starting up your car and usually after it slowly warms up it goes away. Oil tends to burn of as bluish smoke so i guess that kind of eliminates it from being any oil burning. The fact that there is a bad manifold gasket shouldnt have much to do with white smoke from the muffler if anything there should be smoke coming out from the manifold then.
