Hello everyone, I'm new to the DSM world my self, other than growing up around talons, i have never gotten into the engine bay my self, About 3 months ago i traded a car of mine for a 1994 Talon ESI. In plans of going turbo with a small amount of boost as a fun little car. I was told when i got the car it needed a head gasket. Well turns out, burnt valves along with the head gasket. I have went along, replaced the valves my self, all new valve guides etc.. I installed a new timing belt along with tensioners. Now i get to where i am at now. The car runs and moves under its own power, but it feels like and smells like its dumping fuel. I know their is one sensor i broke that went to the egr when i removed the head. Would that be causing the issues. As everyone i know who has a dsm has deleted the egr as i want to keep it. ( i'm in ohio no emissions ) Or could it be coolent temp sensors, the one that has the connectors like "_l." I have attached a few pictures. the car is also very hard to start. Takes about 7-10 seconds of cranking. timing is dead nuts on.

The sensor you're talking about will make the car hard to start. If it's broken or unhooked the computer thinks it's cold outside and dumps extra fuel in.

Check to make sure the vacuum lines are plugged. Are you throwing any codes?

The sensor for the coolent temp is not broken, The only broken wire is in the pic above labeled egr.jpg.

I have reconnected all vacuum lines to know knowledge. This car was ripped apart when i received it.

No codes thrown yet. the car has been through 4 heat cycles of idling and moving around the driveway.

You need to perform a leak down test.
My guess is a leaking valve.

Valve replacement is a precision task and requires specific tools and test equipment to make sure the job is done right.

Craig, this is correct, I took the head to my a friends shop where i replaced the valve with his tools.

I will perform a leak down test. Just need a few day to do so.

I will say once it is up and running, It just smells like its running rich. runs great. I just figured i was loosing fuel pressure for what ever reason and needed some extra cranking time.

Thank you.

Across the 4 cyl's ( replaced valve in cyl 3 )
Cyl 1: 17%
Cyl 2: 20%
Cyl 3: 14%
Cyl 4: 17%

This was done at TDC. Car sat over night.

I found out my fuel sender or gauge does not work properly.Car was out of fuel. I added 5 gallons of fresh 89, Car runs smoother but still hard to start. If its warmed up, no issues starting.
