So here goes. I am looking for a turbo to replace my HX35 with. I'm making between 430-475 awhp with it but it spools to low for me. Especially in 1st and 2nd its virtually not there. But in 3rd and 4th it wakes up nd hits the 27psi all day. So what I am looking for is a turbo that spools faster but can flow about the same or more than the HX35 does. Anyone have any ideas?

What housing do you have on it?

Glad you brought up housing the dang thing has the stock housing on it. And I highly doubt the manifold is for a twin scroll. Which could explain my crazy lag out of it. But either way I'd like a different turbo.

Do you know which size stock housing? Either way, if you want better response I would suggest the BEP .70 T3 housing, or even the .55 Bolt-on housing. With my H1E (HX40) in the .55 housing I was hitting 20psi+ around 4k RPM.

But if you just want a different turbo, your going to be hard pressed to find anything that will spool faster and flow equal.

Yea true I'm not hitting 27psi until 5k+ rpm which is killing my times. I'm gonna try to find a .70 bep housing and see how it does if it doesn't help ill get an FP Red and use it. Skizzo I like then I looked them up but ill probably have a hard time finding one on here.

Yeah something is wrong man. Most people love the HX35 for its spool characteristics.

There are no leaks boost, vaccume, or exhaust. Has to be because it the stock twin scroll housing and not a twin scroll manifold.

4500 is still a slow spool. you all should really research a little bit about the gtx3076r You would be amazed that it flows 56lb/min and you can spool to 27 psi around 3800 and it can make the power you want no problem.
STEEL COMPRESSOR WHEELS = JUNK!!!

We understand. You have a gtx3076r/know someone that has one. Good for you/them. The hx35 with the bolt on .55 housing will spool around the same. Helping the OP save money by keeping the turbo he has and getting the bolt on house with stock 2g mani will give him everything he wants.

BTW, turbos dont use steel compressor wheels, they use aluminium(do you even know the difference between billet and cast wheels?). Have you even seen the dyno results of that turbo? If someone is looking for quicker spool they want better street manners and power. The hx35 is a torque monster and great for street cars. 400+ft/lbs torque before 4k.

HX35 options

-Factory twin scroll with real twin scroll manifold. Best potential flow and best spool. More expensive to make everything work together (TS manifold might take more space, custom downpipe). Not sure on the whole 2 wastegate thing though.

-BEP (Bullseye Power) .70 A/R. Best top end, okay spool.

-BEP .55 A/R. Best spool, decresed top end.

That's what I got out of my searching over the past few months.

The stock housing could even be the larger than 12cm2, such as 16cm2, not all hx35's came with 12cm2 housing. The H1C's even came with a 18cm2, which is the touch of death for our cars. In the right housing the holset spools just as well as any comparable turbo, save for the tiny blowers mitsubishi makes.

I should have noted that, thanks for pointing it out, Jim. :thumb:
I'm guessing that is what is up in this particular situation. Even if he had a 12cm2 divided housing mated to a regular t3 flange it wouldn't be as horrible as he is referencing. However, it would make sense if he has one of the big daddies on there, I have had the all the varieties at one point or another except the 21cm2, and anything over 14cm2 is way too big for a HX35.

I have no idea what the size is LOL. I'm probably just going to switch to FP Red and save the HX35 for a rainy day project or something. But I am going to look for a bep housing first but i still have o get a new manifold o2 housing and downpipe LOL

You do realize the old-school FP Red is one of the laggiest DSM bolt-on turbos available, right? It's built strictly with racing in mind.

Not to mention the FP Red will require the same manifold and downpipe setup as the BEP Bolt-On housing. You can even install an internal wastegate on the BEP housing just like the FP Red has...

I'm looking at the new FP Red. I have a bw s259 being shipped to me now from home. I may try it out and see how it goes.

I'm also looking at the new FP green. Since its cheaper and can also put out the numbers I'm looking for.
