Good FMIC to buy?

I have been reading up on the forums about fmic's to get and most of the posts are old. I need to find the latest fmic's made that are good and reliable and cool nicely. Any idea's? i heard apexi is a good one. Btw i have a 99gsx

It's pointless unless your turbo requires you to have a bigger front mount. He's gonna have a drop in pressure if he goes with a huge front mount unless he has a turbo that can fill it. I know front mounts are a good mod but not really needed where he's at right now.

I would STRONGLY recommend the Slowboy kit. Very nice kit. Good strong 4 ply couplers, t-bolts clamps, and the shortest route piping out there. My friend, using dsmlink, logged a run on a 104 degree day last september with the 1g race kit and it showed his intake temperature was 82 degrees. He was running an FP3055 turbo on 26 lbs. Very efficient kit and fairly priced.

Not trying to bash you here or anything, but I don't see how this is possible. Heat flows from hot to cold, therefore even if the I/C was operating at 100% efficiency, then the air in the intake tract would be, at best, 104*F. Im not saying it doesnt cool very well, I jut think those numbers are a little off, unless he had water/meth injection or an I/C sprayer or something along those lines.

The race kit core they offer is not really that big. If he is set on buying an intercooler at this time he should still go with the race kit. But you are right he should spend the money elsewhere, like fuel mods and engine management.

For performance, fitment and options for any power level/turbo upgrade I honestly feel that our kits are the best at any price. The Street intercooler does fill the entire bumper opening with core on a 2Gb bumper (see below) and would be perfect on an EVO III 16G. If you ever think you'd step up to a 20G, 50 trim or even larger turbo in the future then my recommendation may change. All of our short route kits from small to huge will accommodate the stock foglights as well. that is the DV/DT fab intercooler, the same one that was in the 2ga with the bumper that was almost non existant. it fits the 2gb bumper well without totally destroying the bumpercover. its not cheap but is a very good intercooler. i don't know how serious you are going to get though. i wouldn't say its the best for a stock or nearly stock car, but if your going to do a big turbo in the future this is a good choice. i'd say either go with that or one of the ETS intercoolers both are quality pieces.

I'm sorry but those other kits are just out of date with the piping. The shortest route piping is the best way to go hands down. Not saying those kits don't do the job but why not go with something that's even better for a price that's not gonna break your wallet?
Honestly this subject is gonna get beat to death. It's all in user preference. Listen to a lot of people who have done it and decide on which path you want to take. So all my best wishes to you 99gsxMD!
My preference is the Slowboy kit because the fit is perfect, short route piping, quality, and price. You make the decision on what to do from here.

Because we want to offer options for any need/goal we offer both the short route no modifications kits posted above that allow you to retain fog lights and not cut any part of the car as well as our super short route style kit The super short route kits do require cutting on the core support and removal of fog lights but do achieve the shortest possible pipe routing when that is the goal. No he didn't have any I/C sprayer of any type (water, meth, nitrous). The intercooler is just that good. I was in the car and looked at the screen while is showed us the intake temperature at 82 degrees F while it was around 100 degrees that day. I have no reason to lie about it so why would I? I'm just telling you what I saw on the laptop while we were tuning the car.

Easy there killer, I said, I'm not trying to call you a liar. All I was saying is that if the ambient temp was actually 100*, then, the coolest the intercooler could possibly make the intake air is 100*, as it cannot cool the air past ambient, even if it were operating at 100% efficiency, which no kit on the market does. The best explanation is simply that the ambient air temperature where you were was cooler than 100*.

If you cut out the ribbed part of the bumper cover you will expose the bumper beam. Our Street (7" tall, 3" thick) and Street/Strip (7" tall, 3.5" thick) intercoolers both bolt directly to the bottom of the beam for a no cutting required installation. To get an all core opening with the ribbed part cut out you'd need to remove the bumper beam altogether and use our Race core (10.5" tall, 3" thick)
