Hey guys-
Read a lot lately about these neat cars...
Here is my current car:
1990 Mustang Coupe 5 spd - Wicked. - Any Town, Ohio
I did all the work on it myself with my father other than the dynotune.
I want a better riding, better handling, better braking daily driver platform than my mustang for my next project, but I would like to maintain the straight line performance and its factory driveability/reliability.
AWD is a must. 1G or 2G? I lean towards 1G for less crank walk issues but like the 2G for the 4 bolt rear end for reliability. I guess the best combo for performance/reliabilty would be a 1G with a 4 bolt rear.
Ride handling and braking are of utmost performance to me which is why I think a 2G would be better as it is newer but I could be mistaken. I know 92-93s got twin piston calipers.
How much ballpark do you think I am looking at for the whole project? I would probably buy as low mileage AWD 5spd car as I can find with most of the mods already but with a poorly running or toasted but rebuildable engine, I would have it machined professionally and then assemble it myself, dsmlink with wideband tuned by me as well and less there are more fringe (cheaper) tuning products available, as little lag as possible for mid to low 12s on street tires, 93 octane, and stock like clutch/flywheel. No weight reduction. I don't have the time to really quarter mile that much anymore and only go 1-3 times a year and dont even want to change tires anymore- I also don't really want to climb over a cage and the track doesn't require until 11.99, big part of the low 12s goal. But I would like to do some chassis reinforcements if available as I am sure the subframe was not designed to handle this type of acceleration.
A dream? I have already started buying parts to make my mustang handle but it is an old platform in this arena and is much like making a silk purse out of a sows ear. For credibility sake I am 28 years old and have built quite a few fast cars.
