Looking for some tuning information on the GM MAFT to help a friend tune his car in a couple days. I first looked in the stickies where all the tech articles are and I found information on tuning with everything but a GM MAFT!? Im really surprised we dont have a dedicated article on the MAFT. Could this be something we could use there? (Moderators)

Im not new to tuning as I tune with my SAFC but would like to know more about the gm maft system. I also searched the forums but came up with millions of posts that didnt help much and I dont have time to sift threw all of it.

So does anyone have or know exactly where to get good info on how the GM MAFT works and the best way to tune it? I allready have the "definitive guide to tuning" printed off but I need to know more about the maft as I know it has fine and course adjustments but I dont know too much more.

Thanks.

That's because it's a real pain in the ass to tune correctly. I think people are starting to realize it's not such a great modification and it's not really necessary for 99% of us. The Evo maf is a much better choice, it's easier to tune with, it's a lot cheaper, and it has similar power capabilities.

I haven't thumbed through it too much but might be a good start for ya.

Thanks I'll check it out. I was just hopeing we had a nice sticky somewhere with it all layed out nicely like our tech bulletins but I havent been able to find that. Im not exactly sure what he has as he just asked me to give him a hand and he said he was running the gm maft. I also dont know if he has the instructions as he bought the car used and it was allready installed.

So if anyone has a minute could they lay down a quick down and dirty course on this subject or maybe make a tech bulletin so that others can easily find it in the future as well?

Thanks.

Im sure you will be able to find the basic setup and more advanced advantages on that site. I did have to download the .pdf file for a 1g a while ago and the initial setup was easy as hell and then go from there with the instructions.

Thank you for the site, but I dont believe he has the Translator pro. He was talking about having 3 or 4 knobs to turn and adjust with. Im pretty sure its a gm maft. Ive only seen under his hood once. Maybe my terminology with the name is wrong. Im just trying to research this before he comes over so our time will be better spent tuning instead of figuring out how his system works.

I want to say he has the gm maft in the piping then a little (translator) box for tuning and adjusting manually with little knobs. He said it has course and fine adjustments. If Im wrong by calling this a gm maft please inform me. Thanks.

I believe I found what its is. Looks like he's using an older version of the translator. Im printing off the instructions from that site. Thanks for helping me find this information and if I have anymore questions after reading this and playing with his car tomorrow I'll drop a line. Thanks again.
