Ok so i just got my glowshift gauges in today. Ordered boost,air/fuel, and oil pressure. Are they hard to install at all? I barely know anything about mechanics of cars, just how to drive haha. I found 2 shops that can install them, bothing giving me a estimate off $150-200.

RedTurboEclipse, if you read this, i would really appreicate your input as you installed these yourself.

That is way to much do it your self for free all you have to basically do is tap in to wires and a vacume source im not to sure on the oil one but im sure there is a right up on here somewhere but seriously think of what you could get with the money you will save and you can do just as good a job that how easy it is and if not try a audio place that does seakers and subs and amps... they would probably be cheaper then a shop at least it is here.

I gotta run wires through the firewall and stuff
Im not sure how to do it

Poke a little hole in the steering column boot (from the inside of your car trace the steering column to the firewall and you'll find a rubber boot) with a coathanger or whatever. Shove the wires through the hole.

thanks, but how do i get the wires there? I havent looked at the inside of the car yet, for where to run the wires, but the wires are behind the pod, and have to drop down, but the dash is there?

Have you checked to see how well the gauge pod fits, I am putting one in my car shortly and was just curious how well it fit.

Thanks Steve

gauge pod fits perfect, i ordered from lotek since i have a convertible
gauges fit in the pod perfect to

1. Locate about where the wires will travel downwards at the bottom of the a-pillar
2. Shove the wires down through the crack (I had to trim a bit of the dash with a knife to get all the thick wires to fit down in. This may or may not be necessary for you. The part I trimmed is covered up by the pod so it isn't seen.)
3. Leave plenty of length of wire on the top side of the dash
4. Shove the appropriate wires (for the senders) through the steering column boot and route them where they should go in the engine bay
5. Route the other wires (powers, grounds) towards cigarette lighter
6. Mount your pod to the a-pillar and pull the wires through the appropriate gauge holes
7. Attach the wires to the gauges
8. Shove the gauges in the holes on pod
9. Finish up wiring the power, ground, and sender wires
10. Please fill out your profile

Im sorry but I dont agree with the steering column idea. Drill a hole or use an existing one besides the column.

Think the column rotates and can wear the wires or even worse pinch and rip them.

Just my 2 cents.

I usually go to an auto parts store to the HELP! section and buy a grommet. Drill a hole the appropriate size. Pop the grommet in and run the wires.

Just make sure you arent drilling into something on the other side of the firewall.

I know the boot doesnt move but its not in my practice to run anything by the steering column. Like I said though its just how I do. trying to help.:D

What ever tickles you floats my boat.:thumb:

Heres some links I have saved on my computer that helped me install them. I have those exact same three gauges not gloshift thought but they should be simular. Something you should know about the oil pressure gauge is you have to run an oil line through your car to the gauge. I choose not to hook that gauge up becasue of that. Definetly do it your self save that money and put it into something else for your car.

RRE VDO Boost Gauge Installation Instructions

Air fuel gauge (this is an autometer gauge install instructions but essentially the gauges are going to have the same wires, Possibly diffrent colors though, this should hepl you get an idea though)

Both gauges are a pretty simple install be sure to run wires over there for the lights on the three gauges I ran the wires off my ciggaret lighter so they come on when I turn my headlights on, Good luck

Oh and +1 for the steering column, mines been through the coulumn for about a year now. Plus RRE sugests it.

It looks like that paticulkar gauge is an electrical gauge wear as my autometer was a mechanical oil gauge. On my autometer I had to run an oil line from the oil pan through the firewall and to the gauge inside the car but it looks like your gloshift gauge is electrical which the factory gauge is electrical so it may be easy to install. You will know when you receive the gauge if the back has a spot for the oil line its mechanical if its is just wires it's electrical.

I already recieved the gauges today. I havent opned the oil up yet. The site said its electical, which i was told by members to get a electrical oil gauge so oil doesnt go everywhere

They are pretty easy to hook up. The hardest thing for me was wiring the power wires. I have the same gauges as you, glowshift also.

yes but for someone who doesnt know barely anything about cars, is it hard LOL

I just checked in my car.. theres no place to run the wires through the dash, on the side of the car where the pillar is mounted. Unless i gotta take the stock pillar off first for it to make a crack to run wires>?

You will have to take off the stock pillar. The Lotek pod is designed to completely replace the stock pillar so the stock pillar isn't used at all. At least that is how it is for us with non-convertibles.

Yeah i took it off. I do see a little hole where there alrdy is a wire going down. It seems i have to drill holes to mount the new pillar since the stock 1 was clipped on.

hmm i took some more looks. i see how to get it through the firewall, and how to get the wires down there.

Im a little confused about where to locate the wires to hook it up.Like, how to hook up the wires to a 12 volt source(ignition), connecting black wire to a ground source, Idk where alot of this stuff is located

guys, if i get stuck finding something, can i take pics to show you what im looking at/what i believe to be?

Have you done any wiring before? Or do you know someone who has some wiring experience? It's always good to have a knowledable person help you if you can.

I prefer to wire stuff into the cigarette lighter wires. You will have to completely remove your center console from the car to see the cigarette lighter wires.

2nd Gen Wiring Diagram
That is a good site that lists the colors of certain wires in a 2g. (Always check vfaq.com for answer first!) The ignition power wire is going to be black/white. This is one of the wires that goes to the cigarette lighter. The lighter also has a dimmer switch wire that goes to it, but I can't remember the color of the wire off-hand.

The ground wire you can attach anywhere on the chassis that is grounded.

If you're going to be doing this wiring yourself, get a multimeter and learn how to use it. With a multimeter you can check the polarity of a wire before you tap into it and you can find out if a certain piece of metal is grounded or not. This will save you from many headaches and will help you get a better knowledge of the wiring in your car.

There are numerous threads on the forums that explain how to install gauges so do a search and see what you can find. And of course we will help you out if you get stuck. :thumb:
