Wow let me start by saying wow.

Let me just explain that I started with my car bogging bad and stalling all the time, so I yanked the turbo tonight. I had a 14b turbo, with a ebay 16g hotside and ebay WG. Well, The flapped shaft pin was sliding in and out of the hotside housing, so I switched it out because of possible boost leaks, now im running 14b turbo, 14b hotside, 14b wastegate non adjustable, ecy

Well now the fun.

OK Started the car and everything was fine, but car still bogged. Well after cleaning up our mess and tools, I go to leave my buddies house. The car now lobes BAD. The car has no power or boost unless I give it gas pedal. Well, I babied car all the way home (30 mins) because I didnt have a pin for the WG arm and flapper. When I pulled into my home, I went to lock the car doors, and I had NOOO power to do so, so Ipop the hood, just to check the battary connections. There I see my turbo hotside (not compressor),glowing bright orange. What would cause this????? Never had this issue before EVER.

I dont have heatshields
I have aftermarket exhaust
Im pretty sure my timing is 100% on
My wideband ratio driving was 14-15's which is great
No loss of power if I gave it gas (other wise it lobed BADD!!!!!!)
No oil or coolant leaking
I didnt notice any smoke under hood or car

If I recall correctly, Some of the items that will cause a glowing hotside outside of Excessive fun , is a rich/lean condition or your burning oil somehow such as leaking exhaust valve seals, or leaking turbo seals (as examples).

Was the wastegate flapper still attached to the arm even without the pin? I have never driven my car without the wastegate hooked up so I have no idea if that would even cause any issues...

Also what do you mean by lobes... loping... like it had cams? Being as it was stumbling and such before hand, I would start out with a full boost leak and make sure that you don't have some other air leak that might be causing you some issues.

Yes like i had cams. It would say i had idle of 800, but sure didnt seem like it. also yes the WG arm was still attached, I babied car so I didnt get into boost really to pop it off flapper. Im missing my exhaust flange gasket because it burned up . And I have 2 bolts that are stripped on my exhaust manifold in the head :ohdamn:. When it "lopes" the lights dim with the loping. If you drive the car and get past the loping, you reach a certain rpm, the car will clear up, and turbo will spool loud and it will pull hard. OMG.

This mourning I went out and checked for play in my turbo. Its still very much NOT moving up or down or in or out. It spins freely and dont rub on housing. No leaks around my HG, so thats good, car still started great, but loping again :banghead:

What's your voltage at the battery with the engine running? It sounds like you have a bad alternator to me. You should be seeing somewhere around 13.5-14.7 volts at idle.

I agree with Gravedigger, check that voltage!! I actually had that similar issue not too long ago when my alt went out on my car... weird light issues and idle issues... even a drop of 2 cylinders at idle on my way to Checker to have it looked at. I had to keep the idle above 2K for it to run right at all.

Well its funny you say this. When removing the ram style manifole. It did spark up the alt when tryimg to pull out. Alt isnt even month old and battary is new. maybe the spark wad enough to frie it. Now that u mention it, it does feel like im in and out a good connection aka loping.

Woild that still cause turbo hotside and 02 housing to glow orange?

You probably blew the alternator fuse then when you arced it to the manifold. Check your fuse.

Lol cell phone sorry

OK I put in a new EGR gasket because I installed a EGR block off. Car still lopes, but I havnt checked battary. Getting ready to change out the TB gasket.
