Im putting on my crank pulley and I dont have the special Damper tool. Im useing a 2X4 and have got it half way on, but im running out of 2X4's and I think I need to try something different. I have heard about buying a bolt a inch longer than the stock bolt and of the same grade and using that to install it.

Does anyone have any ideas or have done this before without that special tool that I cant find :thumb:

Thanks

**Update**

Ok I got the crank pulley on last night and got my car to start up after timing belt, tensioner, idler pulley, headgasket, seals...etc replaced! The job was awesome, I didnt run in to no problems. My haynes manual and this site has helped me out a lot!

To get the crank pulley on a 2gNT without a special tool or a bolt thats M12 1.75 and about a inch longer than the stock bolt...I did this.

I got a couple of 2X4's, a mini sledge hammer and placed the pulley on the crankshaft. Make sure that it goes on evenly and stay's that way while you install it.

Next I put the 2X4 on the pulley and comenced to hammer the crap out of it.(I have heard that you can put the pulley in a oven at 500 degrees for about 20 min to make it go on easier...I did not try this so I do not know if that would work.) The 2X4 would break pretty easy so I went to Lowes and got a 4X4, cut it down and used that. Worked much better.

When the pulley is on there pretty good but still has a little more to go, put the stock crank pulley bolt on and torque it down until the pulley meets up with the crank sprocket. You may need to take the bolt out if you feel a lot of resistance and tap on it more with your 4X4. Put some washers on the bolt so to distribute some of the weight off of the bolts head. Keep doing this and it will be on in no time.

Good Luck!! :dsm:
