Special thanks to the whole DSM1Gina2G list members who have helped in providing the useful information needed to compile this detailed list, Sean Caron for providing the car and motivating me. Justin and Robert from the RRE crew who fought hard when they were cutting oil pump covers, no more; just bolt it in with hand tools.

More very useful info can be found here at the Road Race Engineering site.

Read up.

check out slowboy racing, they sell the kit for the swap and have the list of parts as well. They also list what parts you will have to modify to make the swap. You will need to have the holes in the head drilled out a bit for the 1G head studs if you wanna keep the 2g head.

Hey...I own a 2G AWD Talon and was looking into the 6 bolt swap. I was going to buy a JDM 6 Bolt Motor but I heard that you need to shave the front mount? Is this true?

yup u do but i havnt done it yet im gonnna do it this week so i will let u know

I just bought a 2g with a 6-bolt engine half installed also. I will be working my ass off trying to put it together once school gets out. The only problem is I dont know the first thing about engines. Anyway I have all of the motor mounts exept for the front one in. Would it be possible for me to just take the car to a machine shop and get a custon mount made?

Hey i wouldnt do that proably coast way to much and woudnt work right go to a junkyard and find one or buy a new one online it would be cheaper and the way to go

what would i have to do to make the front motor mount fit right? anybody who has a 1G engine in a 2G?

It isnt as a big a deal as it sounds you just have to trim the front left/driver side mount a bit with a cutting tool to clear the 1G water pump thats the only cutting involved.

oh ok, I thought that the front mount was out of alignment and need some custom fabrication to fit right. Thats what the guy I bought it from said.

It would seem to me that 6bolt 2g swap would be a 6bolt 2g swap regardless of the year 2g. Same mounts etc and same wiring for the 1g CAS. That is unless you plan to use a 2g head.

Whats amazing is that 98RedGs posted links to the sites that tell us how to do it and it looks like nobody read them.

where do you think I got the info ;)

Well I did look at the link but I couldn't tell if that was the very front motor mount by the radiator because I don't have my car right next to me. Also it doesn't mention all of the motor mount mods you need to do. For the rear motor mount I had to get a custom lifter block to get it to bolt up right.

that last picture posted is the only mod u have to do and thats the only motor mount u have to do it to. it took me all of 2 min to do that mod to the motormount. magnus has pics of it on their website already mounted on the motor click on the links. your making this out to be more trouble than what it really is.

cmon guys, please read all the links. All the modifications you have to do to make it work are spelled out for you. But you gotta read them.

Your welcome and it dosen't matter which 2g you have as far as the swap will be concerned unless the car has an eprom ecu in it. Then (according to rre's info) you could simply swap 1&4 spark plug wires and have no problem.

IF CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS OCCUR! TRY THIS:

(Blake Heisler's Fix for misfire Check Engine Lights (CELs) when putting a 1G Cam Angle Sensor (CAS) on a 2G)

Many people using the 1G CAS on a 2G head have been running into problems with misfire engine codes while at cruise. Many different things have been blamed for this and many different fixes have been attempted.

This fix will keep the ECU from looking for misfires at all. This is the criterion that must be met before the ECU will start to look for misfires:
1. 300+ seconds of steady state RPM less than 80% throttle position
2. Engine coolant temperature -10C or higher
3. Intake air temperature -10C or higher
4. Barometric pressure greater than 76 kPa

Honestly guys.. You're making this out to be a mountain instead of a small ant hill. Just simply goto the links and read the information that they have posted in there. These guys took the time to Do the swap and then even Take pictures and even Write in high detail everything you need to know. The least you could do would be read it before asking any of the questions... Because there repetitive.
