i am getting this sweet deal from a friend. His 91 dsm n/t for $250 . i have a 98 gsx right now but for 250 i cant pass that deal up. I've been wanting to do a 6 bolt swap just for insurance and i guess power :) my question is, can i use this 6 bolt n/t block for my project? im going to be using my 2g head and everything else what comes with the swap. Also, would it be safe doing it this way instead of a turbo block since the knock sensor bolt is on a different cylinder. I am aware that the oil squiters are gone, i will be using wiseco pistons with 1g big rods, do i need machining of the rods into the 1g wiseco pistons? thanks guys!

You can use the 1g block. A lot of people prefer it because it yeilds more oil presure without the oil squirters. You will be fine swapping in 1g big rods and aftermarket pistons but I would be the block machined at least .020" over. As far as reliability it should be more reliable if it is built properly. But you will actually lose power with the lower compression ratio. In the long run it will be better though because it will enable you to run more boost. You shouldn't need to machine the pistons unless they are for a 2g.

This is totally Doable., and Just in wanting to do so.

6 bolt NA blocks are nearly exactly the same as a "turbo" block except for the noted differences....

NA blocks have L3 cast into the back side
Turbo blocks have LT3 cast into the back side
NA blocks have no Knock Sensor hole
NA blocks do not have Oil Squiters installed
NA blocks have 9:1 CR cast pistons
NA blocks have the SAME Nitrided 6 bolt cranks and 6 Big Rods as the turbo blocks.
The exact same cylinder head with the exact same valves and springs.....CAMS are different but that is expected.

NA engines also have a Non-Turbo type of coolant Cross Pipe that is desireable for some turbocharger setups.

Any way you look at it, scoring a buildable 90-92 NA 6 bolt complete car for less than $1000 is a Win-Win.:thumb: :rocks: :shhh:
