I’m trying to learn and understand the behavior of when boost is applied while driving. I get that the more torque and air flow coming out of the exhaust the faster boost is spooled.
I’ve noticed in first gear from a stop when you accelerate to shift to second boost builds but not as fast as building boost in 2nd or 3rd. 4th seems a little slower/lower psi as well but that’s likely because I’m backing off throttle as I’m reaching cruising speed.
In 5th I rarely see boost, maybe 1 or 2 psi if I hit the throttle to pass. If I want boost while cruising to go higher I have to drop to 4th or even 3rd to really see it build.
Now something else I have noticed is when slowing down to go through the automated toll lanes I’m running about 25 - 30 mph in 2nd. Clear the light and punch the throttle and through all the gears I only see about 8psi. Is this because the car was rolling at a higher rpm already and didn’t have as much torque from the lower range to build boost through the gears?
In short to hit your max set boost do you need to build through the entire rev range (like starting around 1k)?
