I was just wondering if this is normal... In my other cars, I never had this problem and it makes the car a little ghetto seeing the change between normal brightness to a waay dimmer light.

I have a capacitor on my system also, and it still dims to the downbeat. It's not a powerful system, but it' sjust enough to put a little bump in my trunk. Aprox 500 watts RMS.

What can I do to fix this?

Have you checked your alternator? how much voltage it's putting out? Belt tension? I had that problem with my headlights dimming at idle/comming to a stop, turned out it was a POS autozone alternator. How low are your rpms at idle? You might raise them slightly but not sure how much that'll help. You could get a high output alternator. 500rms, what is its peak?
If you dont have your amplifier powered does it still do it? Did it do it before the install?

Yeah, did it do it before the system install? If not then it is the alternator and all you would have to do is upgrade to a high output alt. If is did it before the system too then again it might still be the alternator, have it checked, loose belt, or even your battery.

How big is your capacitor? You shouldn't have anything more than 0.5 farad because then it would be another bigger thing for the alternator to charge.

My car did the same in the last 2-3 weeks and then last night my battery and brake light came on (meaning alternator is about to die). I suggest that you take it to Autozone or someplace where they check your electrical system.
