Gasket Sealant, wise to use??

I'm changing my intake manifold gasket...just wondering if it'd be wise to use RTV sealant, or not? I've heard people say to just use the gasket, and some say use the sealant..if so, what kind of RTv?? The only RTV sealant I've found is the black sealant, and it says that's for window trim & the like.

I would just go and get the gasket. Im not saying that ppl probably havent used RTV. My concern would be not getting a good seal w/ the RTV and having to fix it. The Intake manifold isnt the most pleasent thing to take off. Scrapes and brused arms are not my fav.

i just bought a felpro gasket...was like 7 dollars. I dunno why you would use rtv.

Heh, and ya the manifold is a pickle. I especially like how you cant get a socket on the bolts because of runner clearance.

If you can get a gasket then go for it. The RTV will have a better chance at leaking than the gasket and you will have to do it again. IF you do it right then you will only have to do it once.

Yea I got the oemspec gasket from Prostreetonline.com

So no RTV then, huh...got it! I'd hate to have to change this again...I got the two bolts on the far right out, but the other 3 HA..there's no way. We even put a swivel socket ON a swivel socket, and even that couldn't get them...so time to jack the car up & take the downpipe off Too bad they're rusted all to hell, even after soaking them with PB Blaster & letting them sit overnight...
