Hey everybody! If you havent noticed already, my name is Kyle and i drive a VW
i know thats a little unorthodox around here but the vw community is a little behind when it comes to tuning. Currently I'm running anywhere from 14-22 psi through my 60-1, although it has tons of midrange and feels great driving around town, i just think its too small for my setup. I want a hard hitting turbo for the street thats not too big but big enough to kill some of the lower end torque, aka rod busters! The hotside on the garrett was a T3 .63ar which provided almost no lag but didnt flow enough air in the higher rpm's and boost levels. Surging very badly on anything over 18ish psi in 4th and 5th gear on the highway. I looked at some compressor maps and decided to turn it back down to 16psi, car runs much stronger throughout the whole rpm band now and breaks the tires loose in second with three people in the car. No surging on 16-17 psi.
I sold the 60-1 to a local dsm owner today
and figured i would ask you guys for some advice/opinions on what my next turbo should be? But first i better give you some specs on my setup
I live in colorado at high elevation and imagine a larger turbo would be better suited for the higher pressure ratios
I'm really liking what everybody has to say about the new billet's and was strongly leaning towards getting the 6265 in a t4 .94 or .81 journal bearing. I like dbb turbo's, just dont have the money to buy/rebuild one at the moment or an even bigger unit could come into consideration.
Here is a quick run-down of whats under the hood.
2.9liter VR6
12valve (1 exhaust & 1 intake)
Garrett 60-1 w/ .63ar t3 5 bolt (sold!!!!)
full 4" turbo inlet w/ maf & forge dv recirc
c2 race file software
bosch 440cc injectors at 3bar
walbro 255
3" v-band downpipe
tial 38mm @ 1bar
hallman evo rx
forge evo rs 1.25" diverter valve
rebuilt block, head, trani
8.5:1 head spacer
262* Autotech cams
arp head studs and rod bolts
7lb eurospec flywheel
wavetrac differential
Ok turbo guru's, enlighten me!
TIA
