I know its not suppose to work but has anyone put a galant automatic transmission in a 2g gst? I have someone willing to trade a whole car for some parts I have laying around. Can I use the transmission as a temporary trans? I know its not build for the power I just want to know if I bolt it in will it drive? Would be better than having no reverse or 2nd gear!!

Ok I have spent the last few weeks since I first posted this on research. I am going to be as far as I know the first to put a galant transmission in to a GST! I know it will bolt up. Looks like I need the galant axles or to get spyder GS axles ( not sure if the galant ones will work or not) I have to re-pin the transmission conector (7 wires). I also have to re-pin 3 wires on the TCU to make the galant TCU work in a GST. I am going to attemp this swap and see if it works.

Also for additional information I found out that to swap a spyder 4g64 auto trans. You just have to repin the transmission conector. And use the spyder gs TCU.

Untill this is a proven swap do so at your own risk. If this works I will post a how to.

Anything is possible, but the quick answer is no. 1g/Galant transmission's do not utilize 2 motor mounts like the 2g's do. The 2 motor mounts that are on 2g transmissions are on the block instead of the bell housing.

Hope that helps.

Dont know how I missed this. But it is a 7g galant and it has the same mounts and all. Even the same part #s on the mounts.

As for an update I recived the transmission last saturday:thumb:. It doesnt look to be in good condition:cry:. But I am going to try it just to see if it works! I hope to do some pulling this weekend and plan on building some jumper harnesses. Going to have to make a run to the junk yard to get some plug ends to make the jumpers. Even if I get it in and it works but lasts a week I will be happy I can get galant transmissions at the u-pull it for $150 with a 30 day waranty.

I swaped a set of 1g urithane sub frame and control arm busshings for the trans, c-v axles, and the tcu with plug ends for every plug on the trans and tcu.

I think I am going to pull the engine and all on this one I have to fix some broken bolts on the front engine mount.
