Hey everyone I was wondering if I could put a 2g trans or 92 and later trans in a my car as an upgrade??? I heard they are much stronger. Thanks

Kurt

im interested in this as well

i was under the assumption that the only difference was obviously the flywheel but any tranny can bolt up, maybe with very minor modifications

I remember reading about it on dsmtalk, but can't give you any details, however I know that it has been done.

I would think it would be similar to the 6bolt swap into a 2nd gen. You'll need to modify the starter mount, and some bolts. But it should be possible.

would it work the same way then with an auto?

i'd be intrested in that if 2g tranny's are stronger than 1g.

or i could just get a whole new tranny from IPT.

hmmmm. . . any solid insight into this would be nice. :thumb:

2g trans = 3 mounts
1g trans = 2 mounts

i personally don't think its worth the hassle/ghetto rigging

but the 91-94 trans is better than the 90, correct?

man i've heard about a million different things about the years/differences of the trans

i've heard that the synchros in the 90s suck since they are made of something besides brass?

i've heard that 92+ is double cone second gear synchro

and i can't remember all the other stuff i have heard - everyone argues about it non stop though so who knows LOL

ok how bout the jdm switchable tranny

:D :D :D

does anyone know this for sure? I have a line on a freshly rebuilt six bolt with a transmission, but it's a 2g tranny...need to know if it's gonna fit in before I shell out the cash. tranny mounts aren't to bad if you have to fab em up...

**edit** oops, this is going into a 92...thanks.

the only real diffrence in the 90's from 91-99 cars are tranny wise is that the 90 has a diffrent shifter setup. so yes you can put a 92-94 tranny in your car but you will also have to swap the shifter cables and base plate ect.. also while your in there put in shift bushings and probally a short shifter too.

i dont think that your going to be able to put a 2g tranny in a 1g. your just asking for problems there.. there is only one mount on the 1g tranny and there are 3 mounts on the 2g tranny.

6bolt in a 2g has nothing to do with trannys ect.. when you do that setup you ALWAYS want to use the 2g

mounts are different

other thing 2g trans has a sending unit for the speed instead of a cable

if its a dsm i wouldnt bother

there are some mirage/colt guys doing it though
