Yes i am going to be painting my 2g eclipse with G36 Everett Green Metallic. I have some questions on the paint. Is this color a rare color i don't see it a lot? I also want to know what is better to buy a one stage paint or two stage paint i have read two stage is better but why? I am new to all the painting of cars. And i would like to paint my car the right way not the half a!# wrong way. I just have seen a lot of DSM's painted wrong sorry. And also how much paint do i need to paint the car and also door jams, hatch top and bottom and skirts, and bumper? Thanks for any help. :hellyeah:
 
Base / clear is the OEM finish. Any metallic should be shot in base / clear to achieve the same depth and metallic content as the OEM finish. Single-stage metallic finishes generally have less depth and you also run the risk of having dark / light spots depending how it's sprayed and how it dries....something which is much easier to control with base / clear.
 
Ok i understand now. Also how much paint will I need and how much clear will i need? And i think i might go with a 2 stage paint. This paint would be a better choice right?
 
You could be safe and get 4 quarts of base, and most clear comes in gallon sizes. I painted my 2g with 2 quarts of base. It ends up being more because you have to reduce it, sometimes 2:1. In the end you may have 1.5 gallons of base if you start with 4 quarts. I liked this because I had extra to paint my twisty sideskirts when I got them ready.
BUT, you could probably get away with 3 quarts if you do 3 coats.
 
Im just asking here, but are you new to painting just cars or new to painting anything? I can tell you that 99% of the final product will be determined in how well you prep the car. Im sure youve heard that already but it is so very true. Dont rush anything or you will have wasted many hours and a decent amount of money in the end.
You have access to a booth? With HEPA filtered air and all right?

Ok cool. And yea i do prep everything before paint. I have no acess to a paint booth. I am having a friend help me paint it that does auto body work but i am going to try and paint some parts.

So 2 quarts of paint UN-reduced
and a gallon of clear
 
Every basecoat we sell at my workplace is 1:1, so if you get two quarts you'll have a gallon of sprayable color. Most clears are 4:1 so you end up with less in the end....it's wise to buy a gallon setup of clear because of the better pricing.
 
OK cool i priced some local paint and they said $30 a quart. And the other said $32 a quart. And they said i will need about 2 quarts what you just said. Do i get it UN-reduced when i buy it? Also two stage is better with a metallic right?
 
I am getting ready to pant my car. I am going to do the whole bay over and the hatch from my conversion. I want to know how much i will need for this? Also the hatch is black right now so what is the best way to paint this? Thanks for any help.
