So this noise is really starting to get on my nerves, I have a rather high pitched whine from around 1200 rpm to a little over 3000 rpm in 1st gear, and some times second if I shift really short (>2000 rpm). Trans doesn't grind, doesn't pop out. I did a synchro test (nudging it into gear until rpms start to dip) all of them are good. I am not having any clutch drag issues.

Just really really annoys me. It sounds like similar to a positive dp supercharger spinning up. Wheel it sounds exactly like that, I have had a few people ask me if my car is supercharged in the past week since I have been daily driving the car.

I have seen a few threads about it, saying input shaft related issues. I have put nearly 8,500 miles on the car in 8 months and not seen it get any worse. It just bugs the hell out of me hearing it everyday, and getting the "hey man does that thang haf a blower on it?" a couple times a week.

My car does that too. I've also had other cars in the past (including my evo) with that same noise your describing particularly in the lower gears too. I've just concluded to myself that it is standard "'gear whine". perhaps due to small differences and ambiguities during the production of certain components inside the transmission, differential, etc. That cause a distinctive whine (like a supercharger with helical cut gears) when the gears are being meshed together. If someone else on here has a more certain idea of what else this could be i'm all ears :)

Mine has the same noise, some people say it could be bad input shaft bearings, but personally, until it dies, I will not worry.
It probably isn't the ac compressor, as mine does it too and I don't have one.

I don't have an ac-compressor either. If it makes any difference when I bought the car it had about 1 quart of nasty looking gear oil in there. I bought 3 quarts of syncromesh and have been changing it every oil change with no particles in the fluid or on the drain plug. (only using 2.5 quarts).

I think in 500 miles I am gonna try so redline, see if that helps it any. Will post back with results.

I to have this issue.. Although i have a 1g.. It whines really bad in 1st and second sometimes aswell as on deceleration occasionally.(whether im in gear or out of gear).
I wouldn't compare it to a supercharger on mine as much as a gear drive on my uncles big ass chevy trucks.
Mine has been doing it since i built the motor(dont know if it did it before either as car wasn't running when i bought it).. Ive tried royal purple, syncromeshes, and redline and the sound never even changed.. BTW when i change the tranny oil i also change my t-case fluid..
IDk if its related but i do have a horrible grinding sound when slowing down while in 4th or 5th gear.. This also has never got worse but it cant be good.. Any ideas??
