Funny Exhaust Smell

OK here is my problem i have smoke coming out of my muffler but its not a lot. when I'm driving there is non but when i sit at idle you can see it come out and it kind of reminds me of the smell of a lawn mower when you first start it. the only thing i can think of is maybe its running rich. i know its not burning oil because i know what burnt oil smells like and I'm pretty sure its not burning coolant because my coolant level is not going down. i have a non turbo with headers straight pipe and 2 1/2 piping and an intake. also my egr valve is inop if that means anything. any help would be appreciated I've been looking on the search but have not been able to find anything that helps me.

That usually means that your cat is dead. Run too rich for too long will overcook that thing. What you are smelling is the materials inside the catalytic converter that heat up and burn off the emission = sulpheric acid - ie acid rain. I would replace it before your next smog test. I am pretty sure that when you take off your cat you will either see that the honeycombs are deteriorating or that there are almost none there.

Just another thing for you to check out is o2 sensors. They may need to be replaced. That might be one of the reasons why you are running rich not to mention being fowled out. Good Luck!

What color is the smoke? Check your coolant and oil level.
