Hey guys,

I just picked me up a 1997 Eagle Talon AWD TSI, and am looking for some help!

I have a fuel leak and need a new fuel sending unit, fuel pump assembly, and a gasket and plastic lock ring (Canadian Tire mechanic's notes)
Do you guys know where to look? I haven't been able to find the parts anywhere.
I was told JNZ Tuning, and I had a look there.
I could only find Mitsubishi Eclipses, which is my next question.
Does the AWD TSI use the same identical parts as the eclipse in the same year? Any particular model? This may help in a local parts search cause I know eclipses are much more common in my city.

Also my driver side door hinges need replacing as they have movement vertically.

Im hoping you guys can help me out! Lordco couldnt help and they didnt know where I needed to check next.

Cheers and hope to talk to you guys all soon!

Thanks so much tater.
My next question then is do you guys trust EBay for said parts?

I know electrical wise they suck so i may buy the fuel pump assy. from JMZ, but what about the hinges?

They seem to be much cheaper on there.

Thanks again for replies!

I'd go OEM on all those you mentioned. I would hate for my door to somehow bend after time due to lesser quality. Or misaligned from cheap worn bushings etc. (unless it's OEM parts on ebay, not aftermarket)

...And this is coming from a 5 ebay purchases a week guy.

You'd have good luck on the classifieds for all that -once you're a 'proven member'

I'd go OEM as well. Just search for 97 eclipse GSX when looking for parts and you will find what you need.

thanks guys.
As for the door hinges, it lists both upper left and lower left seperately.

Im better off substituting both right?
Also, why does it say convertible? Will it fit my talon too?
Cheers

the ad:

Lower Left
* HINGE-DOOR (MARK- - Convertible
List Price : $36.02
Your Price : $27.88

The door hinges are as follows (all are the same from 95-99).

HINGE FR DOOR UPR LH
Make: Mitsubishi | Part#: MB517722
List Price: $37.81
Your Price: $29.27

This is the Driver's door, upper hinge.

&

HINGE FR DOOR UPR RH
Make: Mitsubishi | Part#: MB517721
List Price: $36.02
Your Price: $27.88

This is the Driver's door, lower hinge.

It's obviously up to you if you want to buy both, but at the prices for each, vs. the labor to replace them, I'd just put both in once you're in there.

As for the other parts;

The fuel sending unit is ridiculously expensive through Mitsubishi. Did the mechanic say *why* he states that the actual sending unit needed to be replaced? I've seen a number of mechanics try to remove the fuel pump assembly by trying to loosen the upper hose connection right off of the sending unit, and twisting the tube. It should be removed by loosening the hose (swivel joint) underneath the car. Just something to watch out for.

As for the other pieces:

I'd pick up a Walbro pump if your pump is bad--much cheaper than OEM and an upgrade.

The locking ring:

CAP FUEL TANK PUMP
Make: Mitsubishi | Part#: MR342212
List Price: $10.57
Your Price: $8.18

The gasket for the assembly:

GASKET FUEL TANK PUMP
Make: Mitsubishi | Part#: MR342213
List Price: $18.43
Your Price: $14.27

If you have any other questions, feel free to give us a ring Monday @ 215.997.6850

Hope this helps.

Josh

So the mechanic at a "trusted" establishment had a look at my car and removed the whole fuel pump assembly from the top.
Is this the reason I need a new sending unit?

Basically, I had a leak when the tank was filled to the top, I took it to the shop, they opened it all up and said the sending unit and locking ring was the reason why my tank was leaking.
The other day, I go to start the car and now it doesn't start. Im almost positive its the fuel pump so that whole system has to be replaced.

Does this sound correct to you guys on here?
Please reply.

If anyone has these lying around please let me know PM or otherwise as I want to buy it. Ebay or anywhere does not have these parts in stock for some odd reason.

SIGH....

I NEED A FUEL SENDING UNIT FOR AN EAGLE TALON AWD TSI..........
I CANT FIND ONE ANYWHERE.
Frustrating as shit.
