Fuel System Install

So i just picked up a shell with a 16gal fuel cell in the back (was a race build before i got the shell). It has two fittings on top and two on the lower front. Now there is already a line running under the car that came from one of the fittings on top. I wanna know what i need to do to connect the fuel pump (do i need in line or in tank? walbro 255 and then from the one line that's linked to the engine bay where do i go from there? Meaning should i go to the fuel pressure reg, fuel filter or what? This is my first time putting together a fuel system like this, thanks for the help!

And should i do a return system or not?

Most likely this set up was designed for an inline external fuel pump. Now its your choice you set up your fuel system. You can multiple options. Since the stock cars have a fuel pump hanger, it houses the intank fuel pump. This fuel cell most likely does not have provisions for the pumps, you are going to need to run an external.

Now, with the 4 fittings, I think that bottom two are used for the feed, it probably had 2 fuel pumps feeding from the bottom of the fuel cell. Check to see if those AN lines have fuel filter/sock on the other end. Some people don't even run filters with those setups. The two on top might be for a return line, but I don't know why there would be two return lines.

And should i do a return system or not?

AS far as the return fuel system, it is really up to you, there are several DSMs that run returnless systems. Personally I prefer the return system, even if it does eat more filters. I like the idea that the fuel is moving throughout the lines, all the time, and also since its constant recirculation and motion, the fuel stays cool.

If you run a returnless system you are going to need to hook up two feed lines to you fuel rail. You can just run one feed line and a Y block to have two feed lines at the rail. I am also pretty sure (not 100%) but on returnless fuel systems, the FPR is not needed.


If you notice a lot of what I said was under certain assumptions about the fuel cell, I am trying my best to imagine the set up and how it would be utilize.
