ok was reading all about the 1g fuel pump rewire - relays fuses etc.......now please take this next statement into consideration before replying .......its a dirt track race car - striped to the nines etc..........why cant i run a wire directly to the battery -------since its behind the seat now to the fuel pump from the battery with a on off switch?..........will this work ?..........please respomr asap .........thanks

my car runs at the most for 45 minutes ...thats while im racing ----my battery is located behind my racing seat on drivers side ....on floorboard in a secured battery box ...so the amount of wire i needed was very minumal ...less then 10 ft .......i used a heavy duty toggle and 10 gauge wire ....fused ... thers been no signs of the switch even getting warm..............now heres a little trick that was taught to me by racers on a budget ----use a common ordinary on off switch that you would use in your house ... they handle 110 current ...so they are not going to be phased by 12 volts .... sure they might not look racy but i do know drivers that have done this ----not me i paid for a heavy duty toggle ----like i was asking on my original post = all im trying to do for now is get more fuel at the higher rpms and im hoping it keeps me from runing lean....im still open for suggestions on any ideas how i can richin my fuel up ....especialy at 6-7 grand ...with out special boxes tools etc ...any one ?...

well, then... using a household switch, such as a light switch, is a completely different animal. I was reading it as using a toggle switch, much like you'd find at Pep Boys, etc.

And a side note: it's 110V, not 110A(current). It's usually 110VAC and usually less than a 30A rating, for a standard single pole, single throw household light switch.

Have you ran it for any length of time, yet? As well as with the pump under full load, then test the switch for heat?

I dunno, I'm just not a big fan of using the switch to allow power to feed a fuel pump..

Why not use a 5$ 40A Bosch relay, and allow the 'OE' fuel pump wire to trigger the relay, and let the relay feed the 12V to the pump, straight from the battery, rather than (I'm assuming here) having 12g wire go from your battery, allt he way up to a switch you can reach from the driver's seat, through a standard toggle-style switch, then back to the pump. I'm envisioning about 10-12' or more of 12g wire, with a fuse on it. Is the fuse close to the 12v power source? i.e. battery?

Thank you! Exactly the way you are supposed to do it. I don't know why you wouldn't do it this way... No switch to worry about turning off or on, works exactly the way it does stock and with the benefit of better wiring straight from the battery. Plus you can mount the relay behind the trunk panel near the drivers tail light to keep it clean. I guess it doesn't make much of a difference in this particular application, but any other time I'd be :notgood: to wiring the fuel pump straight through a toggle switch.

Have you thought of using an AFPR to turn up your base fuel pressure a few psi? The ecu will be able to compensate well enough at idle/part throttle so you don't run pig rich and the extra pressure should help your lean condition at high RPMs.

question. i have been looking through my repair manual, for my 94, it shows the fuel pump in forward side of the gas tank under car, i know the newer ones have it under seat or in trunk to access and wire up there. how would i go about doing this on mine? i think the vfaq i seen was for 2g...where is pump access and all my wires going to run into on the 1g?

and my switch is a 12/24v 50A style. package said 30A, but i guess i got a little better guality there. one from radshack

mine is also a 94 ---directly behind the drivers seat ..under carpet is where the fuel wires run just tape your new wire to a metal clothes hanger and push it through pull enough through to follow the old fuel wire tie wrap and tape on to the old line ...leaving a small amount of slack ...by the way guys thanks for all the help on this ----it did wonders wit my leaning out on top end - no problems now ....
