I want to convert a 2G GS-T from front engine, FWD to midengine, RWD. I have had this crazy idea for a few weeks now and im wondering if its been done. If anyone thinks its crazy, or just stupid. Anybody have any info on this? I want to get some opinions from DSM gurus before i decide to embark on this insane journey.

not worth it imo unless it is a full drag car.

you wouldn't have the clearance to do it on a streetable car, as you'd probably be sitting on the engine.

i would say go for the rwd if you had awd, it probably wouldn't be that hard. but since you have fwd, i would advise against it(again, unless you are going full race).

i would never do such a horrible thing to my baby (Barney), but i was actually gonna look for a rolling shell (2G GST) and just put some reinforcement up front like an MR2 and make some custom motor mounts, get the motor and tranny in the trunk, and just work from there as far as hydraulic clutch lines, shift linkage, etc. i just wanna have the only, or one of the VERY FEW in the world. i want it as a show car mainly, and i did some measurements today, and from the center of the hub to the front edge of the turbine housing, it would fit with about a foot to the back of the front seats, leaving me enough room for a firewall, starter, alternator, a/c compressor, etc. the only thing i cant really figure out is where to put the intercooler and the radiator so that they get sufficient airflow. any ideas? i really wanna do this just as a project, just to see if i can, its more of a challenge for myself than anything, and i just think it would be really hot to have a midengine DSM. i hate FWD, and i dont think AWD is what i would be really happy with either so this seems like the best. and i dont wanna give up my DSM love for something like an MR2 or a 240. any opinions or info is appreciated

has this ever been done before? ive seen mid engine RWD Del Slos with H22 swaps in the trunk, but never a DSM, i just want something unique, something nobody has, but still a DSM. <3

almost everything has been done. if ya fig the twin motor talon.. thats got a motor in the hatch that drives the rear tires. been RWD convertions done. ive seen dsm motors in sand rails, 4x4's.
the only place ive never seen it , is in a boat

Cut out some parts of the rear hatch glass, and put some kind of fin on the outside of the glass which catches and directs air inwards...put the intercooler in front of those inlet vents?

On an MR2, the radiator is still upfront. The hosing just runs to the rear. I own an 87 MR2

Just a real quick-and-dirty chop of the R&T side view, with the air filter removed, shows the power/transmission pack fits the rear pretty well. I have no idea what kind of hell it'd be both to build and to drive the front suspension under the rear.

Can you pull Formula Vee tricks with DSMs and put the whole drivetrain in backward, and keep AWD?
