Alright guys. This is a theoretical question regarding fuel pumps. so don't give me too hard of a time haha :p

I was curious, what is the difference between an in-tank and an in-line fuel pump. The reason being, in a purely speculative sense would it be possible to use an in-tank fuel pump and jerry rig it to work as an in-line fuel pump. In my eyes the only differences is that the in-tank has the filter attached to the fuel uptake line. Is the in-line fuel pump air-tight or what?

Just looking for some insight!

The intank pumps dont have enough of a nipple on the bottom to even attach a hose to

Technically you probably could use it as an inline pump but the safety risk would be huge.

Like stated above, the intake tube that goes to the fuel is way too short. Plus, there is no sort of ridge to hold a hose on anyway. I would never use any sort of fuel system hoses that connect with only hose clamps. If for any reason the fuel line would slip loose because there is no barb on the nipple, you could have a serious fire hazard I used a -6AN braided stainless line on mine with the fittings. Much safer and much easier.
