fuel pump problem

Im running into a what i believe to be a fuel pump problem ive searched on this forum and i havent found anything that would help me out. When i turn the key to the on position i cant hear the fuel pump prime. i disconnected the fuel line from the fuel rail and no fuel comes out when i prime it so i pulled the fuel pump out and wired it to the pump to see if it works and it buzzes but very very low pitched does that mean its a bad pump?? also i pulled the relay under the ecu and i believe its fine i wired that to a positive and ground and that clicked also. also without the fuel pump in i put a voltage light on the wiring harness that is coming to the back of the car to see if theres power and the light turns on for a split second then goes off shouldnt the light stay on for a couple seconds like how long the fuel pump would be priming??? thanks any help would be great i bought this car not running so im working through all the problems. its a 90 talon awd turbo thanks alot

OK... you have two posts on the same problem. When you try to start, the engine turns but doesn't fire... spark or fuel. You know that it is a fuel problem because...? I am guessing you pulled a plug and it was dry. Did you start simple and change the fuel filter? If it is the stock pump, it won't be loud. You may want to do a search on hear for common "starting problems". Could be your ECU caps.

There shouldn't be fuel coming out when it is in the On position. Mine won't push out fuel unless I am cranking the engine. I read a couple of places that that is normal. My car runs fine, so I don't think about it.

ok the pump should prime shouldnt it?? I had the pump out of the car but still pluged into the harness and it never turns on. also what are ecu caps? when i try to turn the car on it turns and turns but it wont fire over i pump the gas a few times and it will stumble then turn off within a second so im thinking its a fuel problem

Does the pump work when the car is in the start position? I thought I had the same problem, but it ended up being bad gas.

Unless your 90 ECUs has some funny code the fuel pump doesn't prime when you turn the ignition on. Like boosted92laser said, the pump doesn't start running until the ignition switch is in the start position.

Have someone crank the car while you listen for the pump. Like previously stated 1g's need to be cranking in order for the fuel pump to work. This thread may be able to help you out.http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217951
