Finaloy getting around to my 255hp Walbro and AFPR install. There is a cover in the "trunk" portion that has black tar shit holding it down. Maybe its a gasket? I dont know. Anyways, then on the fuel tank theres a gasket. Should the gasket there be replaced? And how do I stick the top cover back down! Use RTV or something?

Did mine a couple of months ago. Didn't need to replace the gasket, it came off very cleanly and the black RTV seal around the cover plate just stuck back down nicely. I dare say you could find a replacement gasket if you need to and run a bead of RTV on the cover plate for your own piece of mind.

The only gasket you need to worry about is the one sealing the sending unit . If the gasket is in good condition then use it, I would clean it up and reuse it . You could use some rtv on that cover plate to ensure a great seal .:hellyeah:

If the rubber gasket is hard and brittle, then it might leak when the tank is full. If it doesn't seal well it will let fumes into the car also.

Most RTV doesn't seal gaskets that come it contact with gasoline. There is only one RTV that works with rubber and is compatible with fuel that I know of at your avg auto parts store. Its made by Permatex and its in a skinny grey tube. "Ultra rubber gasket sealant & dressing"

I sealed the drain plug on the bottom of my gas tank 2 years ago with it and its holding fine.

I will just buy a new gasket for the sending unit. Knowing my luck it will be hard...seems a lot of the gaskets in my car are. At least all the ones I have changed so far

Napa didn't have it, would take 10 days to get in. And Schucks would have to order it and would take 4 days. FML.

Edit: Called dealership and they'll have it in on Wednesday...if I called sooner, they would've had it tomorrow. Oh well. $12 plus tax plus $5 for overnight delivery. It's $4.89 at Autozone, but it's special order which will take a week.
