I need a new fuel pump and of course for me cost is a big factor, im always trying to do things on a budget OMG not being cheap i mean just trying to do as well as i can with what i can. This fuel pump decision should be made with keeping in mind that eventually I will be getting a new turbo once i finish getting the car ready with the other parts (supporting stuff like fmic, injectors etc) and save up the $$. I am thinking one of these pte scm32's or a SBR50 trim. So my plan is most likely a turbo along the lines of one of those.

I read thru pages of search results on the site, and of course the 255 is reccomended, but also some ppl who say the are running a rewired 190, and saying thats enough. What is true?? Im only asking this cause right now I dont want to get the 255, and have to shell out the $100 or so for pump kit, and then $130 for a AFPR, a fuel pres gauge, and the line fittings for the AFPR....yike$! OMG Itd be much nicer to just throw a 190 in haha.

I'm not planning on running my setup on the ragged edge of tuning, like my goal is not to erk every concievable pony from the final turbo setup i get, I plan on using it as a occasional driver, and race for fun on weekends. I didnt know if the 190 could supply enough fuel for x amt of hp?

If the 255 is the only way I'll be able to run a 50trim or close to it, i guess i'll just save up for the 255 and all the parts that go with it, but i'd like to avoid it if possible...

thanks guys!!

Do it right. Get the AFPR and the 255. If you can't afford it then you can't afford to make the power you're aiming for. Don't cut corners.

alright just checking.. OMG ah well..off to spend some $$ haha although cutting corners is one of my favorite things to do...only if it works tho :) thanks...i kinda figured that much :thumb:

all the 255/190 comes with same things, all can hook up easy, i put in both before on friends cars

AND I LOVE BLOWING S*IT UP HAHA

replanning and pricing where i want to go with the car.... what about a 190 with an 18g? I know of guys running that combo, but safely is the question haha. I guess more or less i would be wondering what HP levels roughly can each pump support?

If they are the same price why not get a 255 so you have more adjustability! You've heard people say this multiple times and noone ever likes to have to upgrade two times the same part. Get a 255 and be done with it. If you run to rich then you need an afpr.

I know a 190 and 255 is the same price!!! But the 255 (on the two cars of my friends both 1gs) absolutely overran the stock regulator and they had to invest money into a AFPR, which the cheapest i found to be around $150, plus I'll need a fuel pres guage around 30bux. I can sink the extra about $180 for a AFPR/gauge into other projects if I get a 190 and don't need it. Note the word NEED. If i NEED the 255 I will get it. If I don't NEED it i won't. 18g is looking good on my price list so i wanted to see if i NEED it, thats all ;)

Or are all the stories and threads on this site about overrunning the stock FPR with the 255HP not true after all this time?

You want an 18g.
The 18g (gets ready for flames) isn't that great according to other people that have bought it and people go with either a 20g or a 16g. Skip the middle turbo.

If you want to run high boost (20psi +) then get a 255 and the afpr. Personally and 90% of the board I'm almost sure would rather a 255 + FPR because then you have more fuel tuning capabilities...

Ok...

Not to mention the 1g stock fuel pressure is 5 lbs lower than the 2g. With the newer style injectors upping the fuel a little results in a better spray pattern and atomization.

If you are worried about spending the 150 on the fpr + gauge remmber that you will need the gauge to make sure you arn't killing the 190 so either way you need to buy one.

go fast = money....you get to choose if the money is on upgrades or fixes....

true true..my old 5.0L mustang had its fun rebuilds when i got that vortech  ...man u guys arent members of the DIY boards are you? haha ;) I guess i just have that put it together with duct tape and see how long it lasts gene in me haha  i just built a lcd projector from a monitor and plywood LOL...well im off to hunt for deals....

oh and they'll be fixes for sure no matter what choice i made :p

Well someone needs to be the oddball so here I am....LOL :D

I'm running 19-20psi on my 50 trim with a 190 rewired. So far it's fine.
There are several other people running their 50s at 25psi on the 190.
The 190 is way under rated by most people.

Yes a 255 will give you more room to work with though.

Is that on pump gas? (91 oct is all I can get)

I'm pretty much set on getting the 255 + FPR, but It's good to hear different opinions.

If anyone knows... What size turbo would make the 255 + FPR absolutely neccessary?

Thanks for the info.

It isn't so much the turbo as the power/air flow.

Theres a guy on the slowboy racing site thats running high 11's on a 20G with a rewired 190. I remember seeing a car running a green that also had the 190 too. I think the 255 is overkill for most people.

Yes, mine is with pump gas. The only reason I haven't gone higher(psi) is becuase I'm waiting on my FMIC(currently running a MKIV IC).

I believe that the guy running 25psi was on pump but he had 93 octane. Don't quote me on it. I'll see if he's on here. I know a couple are on the DSM link forums....like myself.

And as far as the guy on slowboy. I spoke to Slowboy about a 1 1/2 to 2 years ago and he said one of there shop cars were running a 190 with a 20g. Even back then, they were saying a 20g and lower only needs a 190. Although theories may have changed by now. It's been a while since I've talked to them about it.
