Does anyone know what the thread size is for the front lower control arm ball joints? I borked mine up taking the suspension off and I wanted to know what size die to get to fix them. I brought the nut down to Lowe's and Home Depot and determined it's not M14 x 2.0, but they didn't have any other options for M14. Is it M14 x 1.5 or 1.75?

I bought a 60 piece tap and die kit, and have confirmed that it is M14, unfortunately it's not either size in the kit: M14x2.0 or M14x1.5.
Gofer also mentioned M12x1.25 in the thread 2gmitsueclipes posted above. So it seems that you guys are half correct, as it has to be M14x1.25. A local mechanic I called confirmed he has that size die, so hopefully tomorrow I can get them fixed.
In the future I'll have a little more patience with the ball joint tool, and not use the hammer.

I can confirm 100% it is a M14x1.5! I have just recently bought nuts for them myself and they do fit perfectly! Make sure your shaft is not rusted t wont take it, they are 100% m14x1.5 though as mine fit perfectly and they are oem arms aswell,

Do you have oem arms or aftermarket? Maybe they swapped threads on them?

The lower arms and compression arms are m14x1.5 and the upper wishbone is m10x1.25, all these nuts i have got recently a d ive had mics in them and thread gauges to confirm all this aswell and they all fit.

I think they are factory, I don't see any evidence the previous owner ever touched the control arms on the car.
This is bizarre, because I even tried to thread a M14x1.5 tap into the nut and it wouldn't go in.

I tried 1 nut and it would not go all the way down to the nyloc section so i tried a 9/16unf just to please me and that went on a little but as its mitsubishi its not imperial but i already knew that so once i tried measuring again to confirm i did get m14x1.5 but i had to clean the threads out to get the correct reading, and now they go on a charm, some nuts are super tight and some are not so maybe its the nuts

Don't worry, I'm sure we've all destroyed a ball joint or two. Nature of the beast.

Can you confirm if its 1.5 or 1.25 once your all set? If you need a control arm to race next Saturday, I can bring one to the event or a bit prior. I have 1 good stock one I took off my car. ( the other got destroyed by me. :) )

I need arms to get my alignment done to race this weekend, but I appreciate the offer. I do have spares for the right side, and I may be able to track down the left side tomorrow. I'm not in full panic mode yet.

I'll confirm the thread size once I get this all figured out.

These are JIS threads, not DIN, so they are typically on the fine side. Best guess is M12/14 is 1.25.

Sadly you can't swing by to confirm in time...

US metric threads are DIN spec, along with Euro (obviously), but JIS specs are different - specially for larger diameter threads. JIS threads can be M12-1.0 and even M14-1.0 - for whatever reason, those are relatively common in JIS builds, but rare to non-existent in DIN builds.

Here are 2 threads, the m14x 2.0 which is standard and the ball joint which is m14x 1.5 which is metric fine, these fit both balljoints on the lower part of the knuckle, just showing a pic of the difference and to again confirm it is 100% m14x1.5 thread

I only checked the 1 damaged balljoint on the arm I had a spare of. I went to a local Ace Hardware that has a bigger metric selection and got the nut to thread onto a M14x1.5. So ec17pse is correct. I was able to fix 3 of the control arms except for the one I don't have a spare for (but may be in stock a couple hours away). I'm seeing if a local mechanic can shave the top off the remaining one. Fingers crossed.
