Front bumper won't fit?

So i recently got a new bumper and got it repainted..

Well; i went to put it on and bolted down the 5 middle bolts, and noticed the top of my front bumper wouldn't go under my passenger side headlight ... WTF

I then tried to bolt up the sides and i had to pull on the sides to get them up and when i was about to put the bolt in; i noticed that instead of the bumper being flush, it was bending outward so it wasn't flush with the headlight and i could look down..


Why is this happening? i have a 97 gst.. and i bought a 97 bumper?

Do you know if its an aftermarket or oem bumper? I got a replacement aftermarket front bumper and had to mod it in places to get it to fit right.

The shop said its a aftermarket OEM bumper and they never have problems putting bumpers on...
Its the "FLUSH" nose, No Mitsubishi engraving or triangle...


Look at all this flex.. this is me pulling it up as far as it can go.. it doesn't just go into place, you need to apply force...

These are 97 headlights aint they? i can't get the bumper to get underneath them..

you have an intercooler there. did you take that to consideration. your gonna need to hack and shave to fit.

and as far as oem or oem type copy, they fit just fine if you dont have fmic, if so they still fit fine pending the cutting and shaving of the excess material.

the big problem is you painted it even before doing those modifications. now when you grind and shave and cut its going to show and not be as "perfect" as it could be.

the ideal is to fit, cut and shave where necessary, then paint.

and yes those lights are right 97+

Make sure your no bumping into any bolts under the headlight...do bumper first then re install your headlights.

and yes those lights are right 97+

It was cut the EXACT same way as the OEM one..

I took my front mount off and put the front bumper on to see if i could get the bumper on and since it was already cut but not cut enough the sides sag, so im assuming i need to cut it even further..

Are you running the bumper support? if so it might be upside down.

there's no such thing as a aftermarket oem bumper cover it ether aftermarket replacement bumper or OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and most of the time they do not fit properly as redturboeclipse said you should have fitted it first and then painted it.
