Hello,

I'm new on this I own a mitsubishi eclipse gsx 93 the original turbo seems to have a lack in somewhere (my mechanic said something like that) .. in few words when i push the car at the max power i cant see the indicator to show the 14psi but a bit less ...

So i was wondering to change the original turbo from 14g to 16g .. but should I modify something more? because in some shop that are selling this product they said that i dont need to replace any injector or something...
So can somebody confirm this to me? should i ONLY replace the turbo and nothing else?

Please let me know
thank you.

p.s. sorry for my bad english but I never took a book to study it :coy:

The factory boost gauge is worthless- even stock, it doesn't accurately or precisely show what boost you're running. Is this all you are going by, or does your car actually feel slow, with no boost feeling at around 2500-3000 rpm? Is there any smoke coming out the exhaust at this rpm range and higher? If there is blue smoke when you are boosting, this would lead me to believe that it is the turbo that is the problem. If not, it may not even be your turbo. It could be any number of things, of which, a boost leak seems most likely. Make a boost leak tester and look for them- instructions can be found here: http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html. Also check for exhaust leaks, if your car is entirely stock, the 1g exhaust manifolds crack easily. If it's cracked, you will lose exhaust pressure, which spins your turbo. You will also likely melt anything that the hot exhaust gas is pointing at in your engine bay. Exhaust leaks should be easy to find. In addition to all this, if it hasn't been done recently, you should do the normal tune-up steps, including oil change, new plugs, wires, distributor cap, and spark plugs. I would see if these things help the problem first, before buying a new turbo.

If you find that it really is your turbo that is the problem, the answer to your question is yes, a 16g can be bolted on, and your car will have no problems handling it. You won't make much more power than stock, however, without an exhaust, intake, slightly larger injectors, and some way to tune your fuel, as well as a datalogger and gauges to monitor your engine. If you're considering putting a 16g on, and you're on this forum, I assume you're trying to make more power from your DSM. All these parts I have listed will help you realize the power from the 16g, and can be added mostly at your leisure. Most people will tell you that a turbo should be one of your last upgrades, but if you need to replace your turbo, there is no reason not to do it now, especially with a modest upgrade like a 16g.

When you get into modifying your DSM, research is invaluable, and as a guide, you can use this page:

Good luck, any other questions just ask.

A lack in somewhere? never heard that. your boost is fine if it is a little bit less than 14 psi for being stock.
I'm assuming you mean 14b to a 16g and that you have no mods on your car. If there is a problem with the turbo, you would probably be better off having them rebuild the 14b which has no problem boosting 14 psi, than buying a 16g unless it is cheaper somehow for you. But yes you can put that turbo in and not change anything else. You could put in a monster sized turbo on a stock car and not change anything else as long as you don't increase the boost pressure over 15 psi.

Thank you guys , you have been very clears and competent.. :thumb:

The main problem is that car has a lot of problems .. unfortunally I've been "ripped off" from this car seller... and i was really a dumb when i bought it...

Here in italy is VERY HARD to find a GSX imported... so I thought that was my chance and i didntn know it had all those problems... 3 years ago i've spent $1500 about to fix it but the mechanic said me : " hey , do you know that even the turbo is broken?" he show me the explanation but honestly it's passed a lot of time and i dont remember what exactly he said...

Next step will be to see how much it costs to fix other problems because the best solution is just getting a "new one" but as i told u before it's almost impossible to find one here

I know that in USA you can find one "used" for even $500 / $1000 this is crazy...
(from bid's sites)

thank you again for your explanations !!! :thumb:
