I have been thinking about purchasing a 97 GSX with about 45k miles. I currently have a 350z. As high as the cost of my car, I could purchase this car and get the phase 2 turbo installed...im guessing

I usually race alot and I am wondering what kind of 1/4 mile and 0-60 times I can acheive from the 400hp eclipse?

Also, I see that the kit is $5000.00. Are there any extra costs besides the labor to install?

Thanks,

Veto

For girls eh buddy? Ill show u what an "A4" can do... then u can tell ur friends u got spanked by an automatic. Obviously u know there are auto dsmers on this site but u still bash em, there is potential in the auto dsms any dsm vertran would tell ya that if built right.

please just sell your dsm with that attitude....you already drive a "superior" car why did you get your dsm

My DSM came first, it's a '98. My C5 is a 2000 and it becomes my beater when the DSM is on jackstands waiting for a mod or waiting for a problem to be fixed.

All Im saying is that problems will always arise with a modded car - more when it's a DSM. My AWD never really have anything majorly wrong with it other than a broken CV boot and fried sparkplugs. I take care of it and even baby it but still it gives me little problems like broken antenna (2x), leaking moonroof, creaking noises, broken stock gsx rim, etc.

The DSM also gets 16-17 mpgs of premium fuel, so it's not an ideal daily driver, IMHO. A 350Z gets how much? My friend's RX8 gets 22mpg. All Im saying is that newer cars give better fuel economy too. - AND DONT CITE TRUCKS LIKE THE SRT-10 and LIGHTNING HERE.

if that GSX with 45k miles on it is stock, or close to it, GET IT! You wont regret it, 5k into a dsm and u will be smokin almost anything on the streets, but my opinion, wait a while til u see a 5spd , because IMO, they are more fun to drive. Sure an auto can have just as much potential as a manual, but a 350z has more potential than a DSM, it just depends on how much money you have and how much work you are willing to do :p . If you dont floor it all the time you will get good gas mileage, when i drive it hard, i usually have to fill up every 200ish miles, but if i take it easy, i can get 270-300+ before i have to fill up. ]
So get the GSX, (if its 5spd) and have fun modding it, there are so many aftermarket parts you can choose any path you want, plus the chicks dig the 2g's :D

I just want to continue to thank you for your help. This has been the most helpful forum I have been on. I was actually driving today and saw an awesome eclipse, and now I wonder, wow, could this eclipse take me? I never realized how many heavily modded eclipses were out there.

An off topic question about an older eclipse I was thinking about getting as a work car. I have my eyes on a $500.00 1990 eclipse gs. It looks like its in great condition, auto, they said it runs excellent, and has 80k miles on it. To good to be true? Is this year a good year?

I would recomend a 5speed all the way, i should have bought a 1g :(

Also the auto trans come with a much smaller turbo and a smaller exhuast manny

Only the 1G autos came with a smaller turbo and manifold (13b) right? I believe all 2's come with a T-25 turbo whether there auto or manual.

that auto bashing post, aside from being pointlessly offensive, was totally incorrect as well. if you dont know what you are talking about, please just dont say anything.. everyone will be better off. the 2g auto cars are no slower than manuals, less likely to fall victim to the much overhyped crankwalk problem, and i would venture to say they are more durable than their manual brothers as well. also, there is absolutely no difference between the auto and manual 2g cars aside from the trans, a bit of ecu programming supposedly, and slightly different gearing. yea i would have rather have had a manual dsm, but i wasnt going to find a showroom mint one with 31000 miles for $11k either. considering there is no speed disadvantage, let the haters continue along in their ignorant ways, and watch them marvel at how your crappy late model atx with 5K in nice mods beat the piss out of their always broke, sloppily modded manual car.. cause with an attitude like that i a pretty safe bet that their car isnt going to be able to back it up :)

please give me a detailed explaination of why you believe our autos start falling apart at 300hp... last i checked they were the same tranny that came in the 3000gt, which was making more than 300hp as stock right?

What is wrong with and Auto....Nothing......Must true drag cars are autos..plus with and auto you can brake boost...Auto is by far the king of the 1/4...Yes but fun factory the 5spd is alot better unless ur in LA traffic for 3 hours..

my .02, about Autos... They have tons of potential but are less fun to drive, with light to medium modifycation autos have a hard time until they get something like a shift kit... Most pro drag car have autos BUT they are fully built autos...

If you want to do some top end and some modding the 5 speeds give a person much more control. BUT if you can you can build a kick ass auto... With that said 5 speed gives much more controls but it depends on the driver's skill...

You just needs shift kits and other stuff, its like us and our clutches..

No automatics. A4s are for girls. :p

i too do not like auto's as much as standards, but i think that was uncalled for, i think you should appologize to the automatic people

the 5 speeds definately have the advantage stock, but once both are built, which will happen either way if you are after more power, they should be about even all things being equal.. but you are going to have to be the worlds best shifter every single time to just be on par with the auto- shift at the exact same rpm every time, at the exact same mad kwik speed, and never, ever miss a shift.. even slightly. also, we can launch at 15psi, and we dont lose boost between shifts. plus we are more reliable according to people that know more than i do. as far as pure fun is concerned, the 5 speed wins imo- and i own an auto.. but my dsm is also my commuter, not just a pure toy, so its not that big of a deal for me. i must admit though that i cant wait to open the car up so i can shut everyone up about it heh.. everytime i go out people are always like oooo thats a clean gsx, nice car man, wow i really.... oh... its an auto.... haha. soon though.. soon they shall realize the powa of the auto dsm :D

i do that all the time, i'll be looking at a nice car and be like, "oh shyt, check this out, hella nice ass, oh, nevermind, its an auto.......hey, lets go look at that car over there", LOL, but I got nothing against auto's really, especially if its a gsx

I've spent not even 1500 in speed mods and should be in the low 14s and 280hp.

Yep, bought a commuter not a track car. So far the auto does alright but shuold do alot better with a shift kit. Some guy has been running 400whp with shift kit and end clutch kit for a few years now, maybe he will chime in (sorry dude forgot your name) I must say the stocker trans feels kind of sloppy and at times indecisive, would I trade it for a 5 speed? Nope. I am happy here in LA not screwin with a clutch in bumper to bumper traffic :thumb:

Pros and cons to both sides of it. Oh yeah, plus no crankwlak. Might have bearing failures due to innefficient oiling but without a clutch pushing it around there's no risk of it walking. :thumb:

I get better then 22 mpg and Im far from stock, so rx8 mileage sucks. Point taken on buying the DSM first, I should of asked first. I have no problems with my DSM::knocks on wood:: even though I drive it hard. I maintain it very well and it runs like a champ and gest great gas mileage too :thumb:

I was getting 16 mpg with my 95 Talon AWD Turbo manual until I changed the O2 sensor. Now I get 24 mpg. So you can get descent gas milage.

What was wrong with your o2 sensor?

not to be an ass, but my car is far from stock as well... I drive my car hard when I want to but I do not beat my car... My car is more modded than yours from what I see... So how come you have more problems than I do?

I have owned my car for 2 years the only time that it has serious down time is when I do some serious modding to it and it has a 130k... It has never failed me in terms of engine or suspension malfunctions. I take good care of my car and it takes good care of me. Plain and simple.... If you treat your car well then there is nothing to worry about Veto. Ofcourse my mom and girlfriends tell me i treat my car better than them but hell my car is awesome ^^;;

Edit: Gas milage with a turbo car depends on how you drive it... Sometimes I get 24-15 mpg sometimes I get 15-18 mpg...

driving conservative, not boosting the t25 and pissing off most people behind me i get 16-17 mpg on the streetz, cruise control set to 70 mph even, the very best I have ever seen is 21 mpg. :thumbdown

So after all this, should I stay away from auto then? Though I am worried about that crankwalk thing. I would like to get at least 350 horses out of this car.

14.5 drift, I think our O2 sensors (#1 on manifold) are bad. I had noticed that my A/F gauge does not cycle anymore like it used to - it's always pegged at RICH all the time. I used to get 18.5 city/24 highway.

Where can I get a good deal on O2 sensors? Anybody?
