From a Z to an Eclipse

I have been thinking about purchasing a 97 GSX with about 45k miles. I currently have a 350z. As high as the cost of my car, I could purchase this car and get the phase 2 turbo installed...im guessing

I usually race alot and I am wondering what kind of 1/4 mile and 0-60 times I can acheive from the 400hp eclipse?

Also, I see that the kit is $5000.00. Are there any extra costs besides the labor to install?

What is this "phase 2 turbo kit" you speak of?

$5,000 into a GSX would definetly make it scream.

$5000 into an AWD eclipse or talon would make for one badass setup to run 11's.

I dont know what phase 2 turbo setup is, but damn, we'd be talking FP 3065 type turbo's here.

there really is no "kit" to make 400HP but a TD06 20G, T3/T4 Hybrid (standard bearing or ball bearing) will do the job with no problems w/ the right supporting mods of course.

Well how good of shape is your 350Z? It might be better to twin turbo that since you know what you have.

My 350z is in great condition, but the cost is killing me to own this thing. I could save a lot of money by purchasing a GSX. I am just wondering if the car already has 45k miles, is it ok to mod the hell out of it. What would you guys do with 5k in mods? It is basically for racing. I never used to race, but it seems everyone out here wants to race now so I would like to have one of the facest cars out there.

dont get an automatic...

with 5000 bux into the motor you could be ripping a sweet 11 second 1/4 mile...which will pretty much destroy anything on the streets except for that blown 1967 shelby cobra that gets driven once a month

Buy a GSX, do the basic mods in the tuning guide, and read around here. You'll eventually find out what mods you will want to do just by researching old threads on this site. We can't really tell you what would be best because there are so many different choices.

I would recomend a 5speed all the way, i should have bought a 1g

Also the auto trans come with a much smaller turbo and a smaller exhuast manny

A dsm 5speed trans can handle 500hp (i would not recomend it tho)
An auto can probly hand 300hp then you will start stipping gears, tranny will slip, then you 10k car and 5k worth of mods will need another 2-3k.

Read into This little thing they call "CrankWalk" before you decide to buy a 2g, unless you like to put new motors in. 1g with decent miles will be your best bet.

Dont rip on autos :thumbdown dsm is a dsm auto or manual. You get what you are happy with, and if you dont like the one, SWAP the trans, I never heard of a auto stripping gears at 300hp, but thats another post. If you do the tranny upgradeds and end clutch/shift kit and a high stall convertor, your good to go. so the autos come with T25 wip de do da, thought most 2gs come with T25s any ways. $5k into an auto would scream, $5k into an manual would scream, Get what you want, I got my auto at 111k, and im starting the modding cure now, and still pulls, the fact that i have an 96 engine in it from the prev-owner and a few other mods that where done to it when i got it, Im happy. You have a brand new car that has the looks and is very reliable. Why would you trade it with a 7 year old car that is unreliable, structurally less-stiffer, and higher maintenance than what you have now. If you plan on having only one car, dont make it a DSM.

I love my 98 GSX alot but with all the problems it gives me year-round, I would not wish it with anybody else.

I had a 350z... It cost way too much to twin turbo charge the thing, and it only puts about 400 down at the wheels. Deffinatly buy a GSX, put 5 grand into it and have fun.

I say get the GSX and keep the 350 to drive. Although I live in double money-pants fairy tale land sometimes... that seems to be the only viable option here.

I love my 350z. Its just alot of money and its almost impossible to get more power out of it without spending alot more. I was considering buying an old 1990 eclipse for the winter driving, saw one for $500.00, because winter driving in Chicago with the Z is aweful. Then I though,t well I could save alot of money and get an awd GSX, drive it in the winter, and make it even faster than my Z.

For girls eh buddy? Ill show u what an "A4" can do... then u can tell ur friends u got spanked by an automatic. Obviously u know there are auto dsmers on this site but u still bash em, there is potential in the auto dsms any dsm vertran would tell ya that if built right.

Too many mods. Stock or close to stock is your best bet. It's no fun having to fix shit that someone else messed up while they were installing the mods.
