Has anybody welded a wastegate of a runner off of the Fp race cast iron manifold? I searched for people comparing the sbr exhaust manifold with the Fp race manifold. I am conviced that my route would be to go with the FP race manifold. But my turbo setup requires to have a wastegate off the manifold considering that the wastegate off the turbo is welded shut!

Just wondering if anybody has done it, or if its a good idea? any help will greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sure it could "work" but it's also extra cost on a new part. I'm pretty sure FP doesn't like mounting the wastegate on just one runner due to efficiency reasons but it's up to you if you want to modify a FP manifold.

FP doesn't like running wastegates from the # 1 runner, I remember reading one of Robert's posts a long time ago. As for it being a good idea, I don't recommend it. Why you ask? because you'll be drilling and fabing up a good cast SS manifold. Try calling FP after your manifold cracks and they'll probably laugh at you for ghetto rigging their manifold.

Why don't you just open up the port on the turbo and run an external gate off the o2 housing? Punishment racing (Home) has some good cheap ones!

Just take the turbo/turbine housing to a shop and have them drill through the hole. Shouldn't cost much, and you wouldn't have to deal with trying to weld a flange on the FP manifold.

If the wastegate is just hanging off the side of a runner it "could" crack off if no braces are supporting it, just throwing that out there.

yeah, im buying the FP Race mani as soon as my car gets back on the road, to pair with my 20g...which im running external off the o2, replumbed...thats probably the best bet...plus...that fp mani is so sweet without the external on it...it just looks sick =)

I know I wish I would of replumbed mine but I opted for cheaper route but I think that the fp mani is one of the sweetest mani available for our cars without spending huge bucks on a new squid.

i agree - the fp race mani isnt "Cheap" but its much cheaper then nething else, especially with their track record, customer serivce, and how successful all their products always are in the dsm community.

its much better than chancing a cast or tubular ebay mani, which many have had success with, and many others have seen crack.

Has anyone mounted a wastegate on the FP manifold yet ? I'm looking to go with a V-band exhaust housing and putting a wastegate on my FP manifold would save me alot of money and simplify my future setup greatly..
