evo3 o2 housing with ext wastegate welded on

I searched & could not find any related links. I have seen a few evo3 o2 housings with provision for external wastegate welded on. would this work efficiently, the same way an aftermarket externally gated o2 would? How is it done?

Any reason why you are considering an external wg from the o2 instead of from the manifold?
