i got a 98 gs. and ive been looking for a gst or gsx. i stumbled on this and was wondering if it was a good deal or not. the ad says:

have a 95 eclipse with the 2gb front and rear conver....it has an evo 3 motor w/80,000 that needs a headgasket....tons of parts that worth more then what i am asking...it has evo 8 fmic,greddy bov,550 injectors,injen intake,apexi exhaust,16g,black gst wheels leather interior,sunroof...etc...will part if i hav enough people interested in parts...will trade for a running daily driver...


the person is asking 1500 or as seen in the ad a trade for a DD just wondering what ppl thought. ill post pics as soon as i get some. thanks for your imput!

if your serious about this i think you had better go in there studied up on EVERYTHING he's listing. study up on how to tell its an evo III motor, a 16g turbo, etc. because he might be pulling the wool over your eyes. post up pics and im sure you'll get a BUNCH of opinions from some members.

im emailing him right now back and forth and so far he has said this is whats wrong with it: Headgasket,it blows steam,rear driver shock is blow out and it needs tires. and im working on pictures.

A picture huh? im not knocking your idea but from dealing with DSM owners that try to screw the less knowledgable he seems like hes legit.
your buying this car man! your gonna want pictures from all 4 corners, under the hood and interior... ask for receipts! proof of all these modifications and who did the maintenance to the car (him, dealer, or midas) every MOD hes done have him take a picture of so you can see if its legit. is it a GSX or GS-T btw?

take this current craigslist ad for example. 90 eclipse GSX! 1000OBO

1g's DO NOT have the same motor as an evo 8 (or any evo) and that isn't putting down 250hp either. ive seen craigslist ads advertising 6-speeds in a DSM and all they do is put on a 6 speed shift knob and take a picture of it. BE CAREFUL! don't trade your baby in for a broke ass un-maintained car, who cares if its turbo.

by steaming he probably means its overheating or burning coolant but from where? it could just be a blown turbo if its coming out the exhaust but id be very skeptical about the car by seeing what hes listing man.

He said it has a blown headgasket... that's why it's steaming.

i offered him 1000 as a project and he said 1500 no lower. so im gonna pass. sucks.. find them like this everwhere where i live. i just wanna get a decent well maintained gst.. that someone isnt charging an arm and a leg for... starting to lose hope.

well don't, i didn't and i found my baby after patiently waiting for about 2yrs... i still have my N/A too! your best bet IMO is finding a DSM thats still a mod virgin, then make it your girl. if you find one that hasn't been touched then all you've gotta worry about is basic maintenance. if you get one thats got parts thrown on it half assed then you've gotta worry about the basic maintenance and how beaten up the car is because the dude before you thought he was paul walker.

keep looking, you'll come across one and you won't have to post up on here if you think its a good idea to get because you'll already know.

your missing a lot. haha. all im saying is that a 16yr old not knowing squat about DSM's is going to buy it because they see "evo 8 motor" and tell everyone hes got an evo 8 motor in his talon.

I totally agree with you that it is misleading to the uninformed buyer, BUT, if you boil it down, he's not lying. If even the uninformed buyer looked up the engine codes for both cars, he/she would see "4G63" listed under both

hey im 17 btw aha and i know stuff about my car. just not turbo models. i know my car isnt turbo but i still like it. i would actually like to keep it. and have god 5 or 6 different DSM's i love em. only cars ive ever really stuck with and took the time to learn. i bought a chilton manual and just sat down one day and read it.. kinda cool. but i hope to come across a gst or even the blessed GSX but ill keep my eye open and look for a good deal. bound to happen someday. thanks guys!

The best part is that the engine and tranny were fully rebuilt less than 5k ago.

Hopefully I can just slap on a timing belt and call it a day.

Supposedly the seller re-used the timing belt on his rebuild (not such a great idea) but he needed to it run. When he had some time, he decided to pull it off and toss a new one on. After he took it apart he decided he really wanted a 1gb and lost interest. Which means, new GSX for me

I have a 95 Talon TSI, im looking to sell. Only mine doesn't "steam". Shes mechanically sound through and through.....unless you want a road trip haha.
