Found a 1G talon Tsi and just wanted some advice.

It's been a while since i last posted anything on here. At one point I was adamant about getting some sort of DSM but wasn't sure which. I know i wanted AWD but floated around the talon/eclipse/laser and the 3000gt/stealth. Well my plans never came to fruition so i lost hope and moved on. Since then I've gotten married and have two small children. We have two family cars and the time has come for me to possibly get something I can enjoy. I haven't wanted to travel really so I've kept my search limited. Just recently I've come in contact with two different motors that could be possible candidates for my toy. The first is a FB rx-7 GSL-SE. I've actually rode in the car and it's super clean. Just needs AC fixed and radio. Well I thought this was gonna be the car but I found a guy selling a 1G talon TSi in my surrounding area that has problems with shaking on acceleration and needs a computer tune and has no driver window, oh and has no PS or AC. So my dilemma is should i buy the RX-7 that just needs small repairs and is pretty much ready to go or should I buy the Talon that has a few more problems? The RX-7 is a 1984 going for $5000-$6000 and the Talon is a 1991 gojng for $2300. Sorry for the long a drawn out post, i just really need advice from those who already have these cars and know what i would be getting into. My mechanical knowledge is very limited but I'm pretty quick at picking things up easily. I'm wanting this car that i buy to be a good DD that is safe enough for the childrens and is also a badass weekend warrior and an all around dependable ride and grocery getter.

Talon seems over priced.

For the price I would go with the RX-7. I owned one for a summer and had a blast with it.

well the talon has been tuned and has DSM link and extra ECU and slotted and drilled brakes. Also bigger injectors from evo i believe. I just have yet to see or ride in Talon so I'm up in the air on the whole thing. I've always wanted a DSM and this is the closest I've come. Guy says the wheel bearing could be to blame for the shaking on acceleration.

the rx-7 is so nice but its only a two seat so no children riding and I'm very leery on the whole rotary thing.

Sounds like you've already made your decision then What good is a toy when you're leery about driving it all the time.

Besides, the no-children-allowed is a bonus. The vehicular toy is an escape from adult life...

Tuned != shaking on acceleration. While it has ecmlink, which is good, expect to take that tune back to factory and rework from the ground up. You don't want to inherit someone else's lean speak and timing hole.

Give it a GOOD look over. 2300 is a lot of scratch for a 1g with even some problems. A wheel bearing would show at all speeds and accelerations. Haggle.

you think 2300 is high? It comes with extra ecu and some other stuff. Should I low ball and shoot 1800?

I'd pass on any 20+ year old car if you really expect it to be a "good DD".

These are going to be toys at best, requiring attention and cash to restore to functional order and keep that way. If you're not mechanically inclined you might be signing up for a bigger project than you expect.

Whatever you do the first order of business is to get the service manuals for the car and set up a monthly budget for repairs and maint.
