For Sale Question

if the moderators dont feel this post legite in anyway please remove it i am not by any means trying to use DSMtuners bandwith for the sale of my car but purley for the honest opinons of the DSM community.

i am about to put up my car for sale and leave the DSM community. this sucks royal ass and i dont wish to but i live in southern california and the smog laws and the law in general dont allow me to own the vehicle of prefrence. pretty much i would like to ask 1 more question from the community if at all possible. i am going to be selling my car soon and am wondering if im asking to much to get 16,000 for my car i have almost every receipt for matinence and parts for the car. the car would be sold with all the modifications and then some that are not on the car. majority of the stock parts and stock rims and stock hood are also going to go with the car. the car was apraised 13,000 with 70,000 miles on it. it is in perfect conditon and has more then 15k in modification put on it in the last year alone. am i crazy for asking 16k or am i out 15 grand from my pocket because Ca decided they wanted to screw me?

I think you'd have an easier time getting that 16k if you were to make it stock again, and just selling all your aftermarket stuff seperate. I think alot of the people spending 16 grand on a car(besides a DSM lover/tuner), wouldn't want that car to be heavily modded. There are alot of untold stories in modified cars, even though you and your car might be in the best condition, the potential buyers might just think you're passing on a headache. Besides the fact you're in Cali, so in essence they ARE buying a headache if they were to buy it in it's modified condition. Thats just my .02

hmmmm maybe your right. well theni might just sell the car for 16k and give whoever buys it 15k in parts for free.

personally i do not think you will get 16K for it the way it is, or stock at that. i cant see anyone paying that much for a car w/a 7 bolt in it. i know you have a ton of money into it but as you know a car is the single worst investement. i would entertain offers and probably return it to stock and part out your go fast goodies. i would think youd make more that way

Just for the hell of It I got to checking out the prices some nice 2g's are going for on the west coast. I found this one in La Mesa, bone stock 98 GSX 5-speed with 60K miles, one-owner lease return. The dealership wants $12,995, and considering the mark-up, and whatever other charges they're tacking on, you might want to reconsider the 16k price tag, mods or not. Good luck anyhow

I live in CA and it sucks. Why don't you just see if you can find a guy who will pass smog for some money? thats what I did and plan to do it again when it comes time.

i can find a guy to smog the car at any time. i just need a bigger car with more room "for growing up" this car dosnt make any sense for me to own right now and its crushing me.

first of all, you never get back the money spent on mods. if anything it lessens the value of the vehicle cause most the time performance mods means its been raced. and nobody wants a abused vehicle except a lone few.

take off all the mods, revert to stock, and put her up for around 10, then sell the mods seperately. that would be your best bet.

i didnt think i would get what i was asking for from my car but i guess i was wrong. having the car only up for a few days for sale i have found 3 buyers willing to pay the asked price. but when it actually came down to parting with the car i had to say no. i never realized how difficult it would be to not only sell my car but throw my hobby and what i have been working at in the trash. so it looks like that car is going to stay with me. thanks for all the input from the members who posted.

Rule of thumb: deduct the cost of parts from the retail value of the car.
You realize you are required to provide a current smog check when selling a car here?

No one screwed you other than yourself. Our smog laws suck, but nothing you added nor modified on your car was legal, and most of it was clearly marked so when you decided to do it.

Whatever you can get someone else to pay for it is what your car is worth.

You may want to pull the aftermarket parts for eBay, and sell the car as stock.

i ended up trading it in for 5,500 bucks

before you say WAHT 5,500 ? I woulda bought it for that, It was down to 6,000 for a month before i sold it, it was on ebay, auto trader, papers websites everyone...noone wanted to even pay 6 thousand dollars for a car with Volk GT-us on it....the rims are almost that much.

To say the least, your going to Def get less more like 8 or so

im well aware of selling a moddified car. but as they say there is an ass for every seat and with the people who are willing to pay for the car that just goes to prove it.

i am tottaly on the same page as you. Ca can kiss my ass. i know that i moded my car and did what is done to it. but if Ca didnt have so many damn yuppys or people in it period i wouldnt get hassled for having a modded vehicle that burns cleaner then most stock cars on the road today. im not the one jacking up the enviroment its the yuppys in there suburbans and escalades. i will be moving out of state within the next few years. i dont like Ca very much and im sure Ca dosnt like me a whole lot either.
