Raleigh,
Alright im sure there have been tons of questions involving this, but the search engine never seems to find what im looking for. so if someone would rather post a link to a forum instead of bitching about how i could have found it to begin with, that would be nice. For anyone else who would like to post here. any info would be appreciated. I'm about to replace my entire UIC piping with hard pipes and a greddy type s, however a FMIC is in the somewhat near future, so i don't want to waste my money buying hard UIC pipes, if they are nto goign to be used with the FMIC piping. So who knows what FMIC still use the stock Upper pipings? or if there are better ones to purchase that redo the piping altogether, that is also of interest. Also i have heard there are companies that make FMIC just as good as greddy and apexi but for a few hundred less. Where can these be found and purchased? Also i am definitely looking for the IC to cover the whole mouth. And i plan to run it on a Big 16 G. Alright that's it for now. I'll respond as posts come. Thanks guys!

You will end up spending more if you go with the long route piping that follows the stock rubber piping route.

The Greddy FMIC will use the stock to and from locations of the stock piping, which would allow you to keep your UICP if you want. The Dejon Tool STREET FMIC also uses the stock piping configuration.

You will end up spending about the same or more on the longer piping route. Many FMIC kits coming out are of the short route piping variety, which cut cost and help with spool and reduce the amount of air the BOV has to vent/recirc.

If you can't afford ( or don't want to save for a while ) then go long route piping and upgrade as you go. If you can spend the money, get the Dejon Tool Race FMIC or the Slowboy Racing FMIC kit.

I went with the greddy type 24 R FMIC. You can keep the stock UICP, but I wouldn't recommend it. When I was taking off all of the stock parts while putting on the FMIC, I didn't realize how restrictive everything is. You will thank yourself in the long run for having gone with the dejon tool (as groomz suggested). I have the dejon tool and it fits nicely. It was $300 for upper and lower IC piping, but it was worth it. You will see once you look inside the stock IC piping.

Also, you do realize you will have to do some cutting with these big FMIC. So make sure you have a good long weekend to yourself like I did:thumb:

ALright so I take it all the kits will come with all the pipes i need and i just need to tell them what BOV im running so i can get the proper flange? Also, which out of the dejon/greddy/sbr requires the least amount of altering to the front of the car. Im not so concerned with cutting the bumper as i am having to relocate, i think it was the tranny and ac line maybe? Or having to byu a slimmer fan. If it is a must to move these lines, how big of a pain in the ass is it?

Also I forgot to add that if i keep the upper piping i plan on going with hard piping anyway so the air restriction should not be a problem. I just wanted to know if the FMIC kits included a differnet piping layout that would basically make the stock upper piping useless altogether due to their designed location for the sidemount

Yes, the FMIC will come with the piping to get you over to the stock SMIC pipes. You are right, you will need to let them know what kind of flange you will need for the BOV when you upgrade to hard UICP.

I can only account for the greddy FMIC, since that is what I have:

I needed to mess with the power steering fluid pump and hoses, because the power steering line comes down to the front mouth of the bumper. It goes across the mouth, I guess to cool it. Anyway, I unhooked all of the lines and put the hard power steering line behind the metal support bar that its in front of so it wouldn't hit the FMIC anymore.

I didn't need to mess with anything else except that... didn't have to touch the AC or anything associated with it.

As for cutting, I shaved off about 3/4" from the entire lip on the back and little bit going up the lip on the sides. You won't need to do much cutting, just look and see where its hitting and shave in those areas.

I'm going to be ordering my FMIC end of next month so if I run into any problems, looks like I will be coming here. I'm already wondering about relocating those steering pump lines, I'm not so much concerned about the cutting issue, that should be no problem. I want to keep my factory foglights but I know I won't be able to, the 95-96 bumpers don't look right without them.

Can't wait to get it, I'm awaiting my 3" downpipe right now, should be here Mon.

unfortunately one of my holes for the fog lights is covered up by the FMIC so I can no longer keep my fog lights:( But if comes down to fog lights or FMIC I'll keep my FMIC:thumb:

Hmmm I've seen some people that were able to keep their foglights on 97-99 models, anyways I already have the upper intercooler piping. Cost me $200, $30 for a used 1g bov that I used a wheel well on to kind of polish it.

just wait for your FMIC... here is a good cheap one... includes everything... from my buddy im ordering the street core one below.
couple others in NWDSM have the same I/c and piping setup from him, everyone i have heard from has gaven great reviews. also his friend who makes hte I/C has a 9 sec Z LOL i trust that :p but also hes my friend so im ordering one from his (plus im broke as a joke)

street core kit 7" with piping, couplers, intercooler, and T-Bolt clamps is $650 the race core kit 10.5" is $800

[email protected] for ordering and details... <-- my buddy DJ

Soo... does the fmic piping included in the kit run to the upper ic pipe? Or does it just run from the ic upwards to the throttle making the original stock uuper IC piping useless>?

Well I was mainly asking about the greddy/apexi kits. But even so that doesnt answer the question of whether or not it runs to the upper ic pipe or replaces it if i was asking about the one you mentioned.

I get what you're trying to say, for example if you already bought the dejontool replacement uip and s pipe, would this intercooler kit be compatible with the piping or would it be routed differently (which it is). I already emailed the guy and I saw the pics, they are routed similar to Buschur, so if you already bought the Greddy IC piping kit, then you would no longer need them with this kit.

Yes. But out of the main intercooler kits such as greddy, apexi,. slowboy, dejon, etc. which ones connect to stock upper ic piping, and which do not?

I run the Dejon Race FMIC on my 1g. The welds arent great, the pipes dont fit right, and there are MANY clearance issues. The LICP wont clear the AC and power steering lines. It hits the radiator and the small Derale fans that you have to buy with the kit. The UICP is slightly off and the 'silicone' couplings arent even silicone...theyre cheap hose connectors that are really hard to stretch and fit where it counts. Besides the fact you cant retain a bumper with the setup and have to hack up the radiator core support. All of the piping made for shortest route, the pipes on the endtanks come straight out the back of the IC. I wish that I would have gone with a different setup now, after spending the 1400 that I spent on the kit.

Anyone have a better experience with this kit? Oh yea, the coolant bottle relocation kit didnt fit anywhere. So its tied up with shoelace until I can make custom brackets. :thumbdown
