FMIC Kits

I just bought a 1995 TSi AWD and was looking at FMIC kits. I was thinking about getting the SBR Race kit or the ETS 2G Race Kit.

The only thing is that I dont want to have to cut the front bumper and still want to retain the stock foglights.

Is there any kits that you guys know of that will let me do this?

If you just purchased car, and it is un modified, there are other things you should do before jumping straight to a FMIC. Just trying to save yeah $$. Cause kits are expensive, and adding a FMIC to a stock car, you will see no results. I'd recommend doing the maintence, the free mods. Then get your boost, EGT gauges, fuel pump, boost controller, then turn the psi up a little. You can do all that with less money, and get noticable results, as long as you do is safely.

The car has injen intake, boost gauge, and muffler (That i plan on replacing with either 2 1/2" or 3" turo-back).

I used to have a 1991 1.8L eclipse before it got totaled by someone who decided not to pay attention to her driving. So i am kind of new to turbo DSM's.

However, if you do decide to get an FMIC you're going to have to get something rather small if you want to retain the stock 95-96 foglamps; which would probably be better in the long run. BIG or RACE dont necessarily mean faster - it all depends on your setup. You could possibly go with a short-routed FMIC kit where the IC pipes dont go to and from the stock intercooler location, but rather jet up straight through the engine. Or, maybe possibly ditch those ugly foglamps and get a nicer set Do some research at some of the DSM vendors' sites.

Or you can 'upgrade' to the 97-99 style Eclipse front bumper and be able to fit large cores and keep fog lights.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is a FMIC core worth using that will fit without trimming your bumper. If you really think you need an upgraded intercooler, you could go with an upgraded sidemount.

I'd follow the advice given above about upgrading other things first as you will only feel a difference upgrading to a FMIC when you have a larger turbo pushing out more boost. Once you completed your maintainence, go with an upgraded UICP that replaces the stock tube and a new BOV.

Then get a MBC and turn the boost to around 15psi until you get a fuel pump. I really wouldn't push a stock t-25 to any big boost numbers, so I'd stay there untill you decide to upgrade to a larger turbo. When you start running 18psi on at least a 16g, then you will be ready for a front mount.

If you step up to an intercooler that holds a large volume of air and you only running stock it could be a slight detriment. The intercooler is creating a large amount of extra space. Your boost wont come on as quickly because it will have to fill the intercooler before it forces the air through your piping and into the manifold. I would go with an exhaust if your going to spend some cash. You need it flowing out which will in turn create a little more natural boost as backpressure is minimized. You will get rid of more heat with an exhaust then you will cool with factory boost and a big intercooler. It isnt till you start flowing a high volume of air that you need the capacity to cool a high volume of air.

Get hard IC upper and lower pipes and finish your exhaust for now.
