The firewall blanket on the interior is the heavy one, the one in the engine bay is pretty light, but still worth the effort based on looks alone. Sounds like you're coming along nicely with the clean-up. I can't wait to move into a garage and rip my engine out and start making everything clean and get it ready for next year. If I can think of anything to add to your cleanly look list I'll throw it up.

Yes, true, I think I had a few trash bags full of all the miscellaneous sound deadening and such from the interior and they weighed 38 lbs. or so. All this talk makes me want to go outside and GUT the VR4, jeez it's such a pig at 3250 lbs. and that long 1st gear don't help.

I LOVE weight reduction.:D

Now now Phil, you got a nice clean Vr4, don't go hacking that thing up like a racecar. If you want to go fast take the talon around the block or go beat on the Colorado. The Vr4 is a cherry to be cherished. :nono: DSM's are a dime a dozen but GVR4s are fading away too quickly as it is. Enjoy it but get your need for speed with the talon. May be a long winter for some of us!

Don't worry, I won't touch her at all, well, as far as gutting goes! I always threatened the guys around here that if I ever got a VR4, no matter how rare, I'd rip the interior out and toss it in a dumpster, and they all thought I was out of my mind. :D I won't jack your thread, I'll do an update on the VR4 on my thread. Oh, and if you haven't been on my thread at all.....I did start a blog.

It's your car to do as you choose. But i know your a dsm purist at heart. I'm sure it will be lightly modded with clean mods. I already subscribed to your blog.

It was a joke I threatened them with because they always joked about the weight I kept removing....they thought it was funny.....the car is 100% my daily driver so no weight reduction unless it comes in the form of lighter suspension or wheels....etc.....

Yes, just some light mods when I can.....especially in suspension and braking. :hellyeah:

As i figured. Speaking of weight removal and full weight cars. Work was slow yesterday so i went up to Capitol to watch a friend race and right off the back he gets a new best E/T with his full weight 2G GSX (minus a/c and pwr steering pump loop) of 11.8. Long story short, i tried to help him along with some pointers and he got the car down 1 sec e/t from last week and his 60' came down about 2 tenths since last week. He drove the car right off the street in to the lanes and busted a 11.8. Out of about 5-6 passes he ended up going 11.1 @ 126mph with a 1.65 60'! The only adjustments i believe that were made were he dropped the tire pressure to 22psi, lowered the boost a hair since it was breaking up, shifted at higher rpms, and actually remembered to hold the throttle down during his passes with NLTS.

His name is Matt and on here is 1whitegsx. Congrats again Matt if you see this. It's a '95 GSX with a 61mm turbo at about 27psi on PUMP GAS OMG. Was plenty entertainment for me and others i'm sure to see the passes. A few weeks ago he asked what i thought the car should run, and i replied "11's every time down the track." Well now he's there and pushing the car hard it could see a high 10 but i wouldn't mind seeing a 10 second pass on some 112 octane from the track.

With all of this excitement i might try to race sunday if they are open. Oh yes, capitol said they might run next sunday if weather permits. Maybe i will get my 12.3 pass with the laser. That race gas isn't happy sitting in the fuel jug in the garage any way.

Where was Charles and the Dark Star, hit me up if you see this. You might have one more week left! :talon:

Your friends car sounds like a real strong runner!

I hope you get your chance and I would be super stoked for you :applause:

I think i forgot to mention that the last time i went to the track to watch my friend race i stopped by the scales to weigh the Laser. The car w/o me weighs 2735 and that was with both front seats. So i figure with only one front seat on race day, the car is right about 2700 pounds. I think if i can remember, that's right about where i wanted the car to be.
Other weight reduction items I'm considering in the future are: Rear bumper support beam, gut doors and go to manual windows and locks, 1 or 2 light weight race seats with harnesses, after market springs and shocks, possibly heater core and blower motor assembly, possibly radio/cd player assembly, possibly remove wire harness and take out any wiring that isn't being used any more.

Weight to be added in :( ...
Install another headliner to clean things up, put gray carpet over where the rear seats used to live, roll cage when needed.

I think my boss wont have a problem with my taking off monday since we have plenty of people working. I think i may ask him if i can use one of the tow trucks to tow the laser up there.

Not bad Trav! That rear bumper support comes out fairly easily and that's another 40 or so lbs. you could have out this weekend! Then that's about 75-80 lbs. less with the seat. You list a real small amount of weight to be added in, no biggie!

So, how's looking weather wise and all down there? I hope you get to run.

Well i got Sunday off and i checked Capitol's website and it says they are not open sunday????!!!!t says check back frequently to see if they are open in the event of good weather. Sunday they are calling for 60*f and mostly sunny in Crofon, MD! What the hell people!

That sucks....:notgood:

Well, have you found out what the deal is for tomorrow? Is there any other tracks down there open? I know you really don't want to trek down to MIR, but, I would think more than 1 of the 5 strips down there might still be open. Well, let's hope, nice weather for making good power.....:thumb:

I dont know what the weather is like down where he lives in MD, but i just got 5" of snow!!

Holly crap 5" of snow! It's nice down here in the 50's and partly cloudy. Tomorrow they are calling for 60*f and sunny down here.

Capitol closed, 75&80 closed, MIR is $30 to race and not even sure if they are open and cecil doesn't show if they are open tomorrow so no racing this week. Maybe next sunday.

Damn.....that may be it for the year.....

It's starting to look like that may be true. While this sucks for me, I may be picking up those Intrax springs, so that would be the start of my winter goal (suspension). I'll have to keep my eyes and ears open to see if Capitol will be open for 1/4 mile racing on one day that i'm able to get off work this year. I still have enough 112 octane for one more outing, and i always try to keep my gas gauge around 1/8 so if i need to get the car ready for the track, the race fuel will have a good concentration level by the time I get to the track. Now i need to look out for a set of cheap/used rear AGXs.

It's ok though, you got out there and ran a nice time either way, that was a killer first time back out. Next year you'll bring it closer to your best 16G time I'm sure of it. Capitol Friday nights for seat time is the key there.....

If you get it one more time this year, awesome, but if not, 12.69 is very respectable. I'll get the slip info and we'll get you on the list.

Well everyone that i know that races at Capitol kept telling me that they normally stay open until the first snow fall. We got two feet of snow down here so we are definitely done racing for 2009. I looked at their site and this year they opened up on March 1st which was a Sunday. I'm assuming that they will be opening the first weekend of March again which would be March 8th. Looking at the calendar, that's only about ten weeks. That doesn't seem that long of a wait for me and should give me some time to get my suspension wrapped up if i can source the money. Even so, that will probably one chilly day in March so we will play by ear.
