Well, first off i am a noob i am only 15, so i think i have a good question for my age.

I got careless and was hot-rodding and well i went from 3rd to 2nd by accident and i was wondering what would blow first and such. I have the 1.8 liter motor and am looking to swap to the 2.0 turbo. Cause i am having no luck with my car selling. Well the swap thing dosen't matter right now i am just wondering what blew and if it is still safe to drive. I know something is wrong because i no longer have my very fun second gear scratch.
Anyways if you could help me, that would be nice.

what does it sound like ? what seems to be the problem engine or drivetrain related ? that might help...

3rd to 2nd sounds like a regular downshit to me shouldn't be a problem normally...but post more info...

the kicker is that i was pretty much at 6500 rpm and with 6,000 redline on the 1.8 liter and then dropping to second and hitting well above 8,000 rpm is killer. But nothing really sounds different. But the day it happened i looked under the hood it was smoking a little bit but not alot.

it is either a high horsepower loss or a drivetrain problem either way i went from 45-55 mph first gear to about 30 mph first gear.

Is that change of speed happening at the same RPM?

yea at redline in first gear before i screwed it up was around 50 mph and now it is only 30 mph also there is this strip that i gun it to the tracks and normally i hit 70 but i only hit 50 at redline in 2nd gear also i think my clutch is going out because in the high rpms the car is jerky

shouldve push the clutch in just a tad bit faster. sounds like you did a number on your engine and tranny. Its ok, you'll gain experience with this.

im gonna say you are prolly gonna be spending some money tho. 6k redline to 8k theres almost no way that you didnt hurt your engine. I would guess engine over the tranny. I could be wrong.

Well how many miles does it have on it. Try and give me a lil more description of what happened. Also what does the engine sounds like? Does it run fine? You know just a bit more description.

the car has 119,000 miles on it and it runs and sounds fine the only thing wrong is the fact that it is slower than it was. The whole way it happened was that i was coming home from school and i was gunning it having fun and when i redline shifted from third to forth well at least what i thought was forth it slipped into second and that was it. It didn't stay in second for but a half second. I got my second gear scratch back but it is very slow, slower than what is was before.

maybe he slipped his timing a bit?

maybe he fried his clutch?

maybe he blew out alot of carbon buildup and now has crappy compression?



my buddys rsx-s went from 7500 redline in 3rd to 2nd gear in a race, it took about a second for the tach to come back to normal numbers, it was pegged at the 9k mark. and his car was fine. some say hondas can do this every once in a while, but i dont think you fubared up anything major to be considering costly repairs, i think its something slight. check the timing(i dont know how to do this on a n/t, check your manual). does the clutch engage the same and hold power the same without slipping? does your car idle different? we need more symptoms to properly diagnose a "car has no power" question.

did this in my old 3000GT.. redlined 3rd gear and shifted into 2nd and dumped the clutch
