I needed a new O2 housing and I didn't want to spend 200 on one, so I thought I would try and make one. The only welding experience I have is from 5 years ago in high school from a week of welding 1/8" plate together. I have an arch weld I can use so why on try. I had to take it to someone with a mig to weld the bottom flange on because I keep burning thru the pipe and I had them weld a bung on.

Turn your voltage up slightly and wire speed, doesn't look like your getting full penetration. Good on the fab work but anybody's welds can be better :)
Get it oil/rust free as well, anything on the metal contaminates it. Oh try to sheild the gas from the wind if its windy out.

Eek, arc welding tubing is just wrong :p

I think youre traveling too fast, not building up enough "slag" and cause a porous weld.

Try to practice on some scrap pieces till you can get to the point where the slag peels itself off behind the weld. Make sure you maintain a proper gap (dependant on the rod/settings) and instead of a constant movement go forward about half the bead width and pause for a 1-2 count then push it forward another half width.

Holy Sh!t do not pop your hood. Just kidding. I am glad to see that someone else is trying to learn how to weld, if you want to spend the cash on the right equipment with enough practice you could be much better. :thumb:

Dallas J has some good advise, I think you just need a steadier hand.

Nothin's Finer Than a Pipe Liner.

Migs can be had pretty cheap considering what you get for it, but if you only weld as often as you say then it might not be worth it to you.

The thing is if I went any slower I would just burn thru and I had the welder at the lostest setting it would go.

When welding thin stuff with a stick, i would "pulse" the rod with my arm, in and out real quick like, making "C" shapes.
Its tough tho.
